Martin Hardiman and Angela Querido, the course tutors, previously ran the full time teacher training Course at Emerson College and more recently the Teaching as an Art course at Emerson and at the Bristol Steiner School. Now working independently, they are co-founders of the West of England Steiner Teacher Training (WESTT). They both live in Stroud and contribute to Steiner teacher education nationally and internationally. |
In the West of England Now running in Stroud, this part time course is designed for those wishing to become Steiner Waldorf teachers and for mainstream teachers who want to deepen and enliven their existing practice. It offers an opportunity to go deeply into Steiner Waldorf educational philosophy and practice in a programme that is structured to be accessible for full time teachers as well as people with family and work commitments.The course takes place over two years, each year consisting of ten weekends, from Friday 7-00 pm to Sunday 12-30 pm, with one week at Easter and another in the Summer. A lively and varied programme focuses primarily on the class teacher period (Ages 6 - 14 years) and is appropriate for those wishing to become class teachers and subject teachers of this age group. A multifaceted picture of the human being Wider dimensions in child development Education as an art and art as education Organisational aspects of school life Independent work is an important element and, in addition to the weekend workshops, students complete a wide range of guided tasks. These include study of key texts, written assignments, art and craft work and child observation. As well as a strong grounding in the principles of Steiner Waldorf education, the course provides regular practice in a range of teaching skills, including oral presentation of different types of material. An Accessible Venue The weekends take place in a spacious venue offered by Marling School, within walking distance of Stroud town centre, the bus and train stations. |
