St Nick lands Coronation Cup

spacer

St Nicholas Abbey landed the Investec Coronation Cup at Epsom for the Aidan O'Brien team.

Dandino led the way in the Group One contest, but Midday swept past in the straight and with St Nicholas Abbey at first unable to respond, the Henry Cecil-trained five-year-old looked to have the race in the bag.

But Ryan Moore kept galvanising his mount and St Nicholas Abbey (evens favourite) responded gamely, clawing back the lead in the final quarter-mile and getting up close home to win by a length.
