The use of LiPo batteries has revolutionised electric flight. The power-to-weight ratio of this type of battery has meant that either longer flights or more powerful motors can be used. But their use requires care: over-charging can lead to overheating, fire and even explosions, and over discharging can ruin the pack.

CSM has been working in collaboration with designers JG to produce two little electronic gadgets to help you get the best from your LiPo batteries, safely.
         
Lipo Voltage Guard
LiPo batteries are easily damaged by discharging below 3v per cell, but this is difficult to judge when in flight. Even a single deep discharge may permanently damage your pack. The tiny on-board Lipo Voltage Guard operates in parallel with your Electric Speed Controller and will flash an LED or sound an alarm when your pack drops below a preprogrammed voltage threshold. The factory setting is for 3 cells , 3.0V per cell but can be set to any voltage between 2.4 and 3.5 volts, with 2 to 10 cell packs, using the supplied lead and your Tx/Rx.
