CSCS was set up in the mid-90s with the aim of improving site worker’s competence to reduce accidents and drive up on-site efficiences.
The Scheme keeps a database of those working in construction that achieve, or can demonstrate they have already attained an agreed level of occupational competence. Successful applicants are issued with a card giving them a means of identification and proof of their achievements. Cards are increasingly demanded as evidence of occupational competence by contractors, public and private clients and others, and today there are over 1.7 million cards in circulation.
Applicants must also pass a Health, Safety & Environment test To find out which is the right card for you, and how to apply, check the occupations section of this website.
Cards cost £30 and the Health, Safety & Environment Test is £17.50. Applying for a card can be done directly by you or your employer, however there are organisations who offer application services. If you are being charged more by one of these organisations, check you understand what additional services you will receive.
