Island Grown Schools is the Vineyard’s farm-to-school program. We seek to raise a new generation of Vineyarders who are connected to local farms and farmers, empowered to make healthy eating choices, informed about the food system, and engaged in growing food for themselves, their families and community.
The Island Grown Bees program educates our community about the importance of bee pollination and the role bees play in crop fertilization. We help beginning beekeepers with setting up a hive, obtaining bees, and mentoring with experienced beekeepers throughout the year.
Island Grown Gleaning volunteers travel to island farms and harvest food that wouldn’t otherwise be harvested. We distribute the harvest free of charge to our school cafeterias, to low income islanders, to elders, and community members in need.
IGM’s mission is to promote increased production and consumption of locally raised meat on Martha’s Vineyard through advocacy, education and outreach.
The Poultry Program has introduced the Mobile Poultry Processing Trailer to the island, which travels farm to farm with an experienced crew, bringing a safe, humane, and local animal processing solution to our local farmers. The program also incorporates farmer outreach, community education, and a backyard grower mentoring program.
