nTraum — Having played around with ~~my weenie~~ gameservers lately, I’ve stumbled upon some interesting things you can do to make your gameserver suck a little less. Free fastdownload and two enojoyable plugins is what I want you to get introduced to in this post.

I agree with you, this title sounds like a scam at first glance, but it really isn’t. You probably already knew that the lovely guys from fakkelbrigade.eu have their site where you can directly download tf2 maps from (check out the menu on the right side). What you probably didn’t know is that you can use the exact same site to provide fastdownload on your gameserver. Adding this line to your server config is all you have to do:

sv_downloadurl "fakkelbrigade.eu"

Comprehensive match logs

Ever tried to convince your team that

you don’t get enough heals,
you actually do deal a lot of damage but your scouts get the frags all the time
you die over and over again because of bad positioning

but you’re missing evidence? TF2LOGS is here to help you out. This sourcemod plugin automatically creates log files when playing competetive matches. You’ll get fancy statistics out of it (like this one) by simply uploading the files to the website, where it’s publicly visible for everbody! You’re able to reproduce your matches yet another time on a minimap (including positions of frags, caps, ubers etc.) as well comparing KD-ratios, healing, healing spread, weapon & item stats and many many more. Truely a paradise for all the miserable theoreticians out there.

Assuming sourcemod is already running on your server, simply put the plugin file (tf2logs.com/plugins) into your plugins directory and you’re done. Awesome ².

Deatmatch for warm up

Langeh, Famous creator of MGE-Mod, has created this sourcemod plugin to spice warmup up a bit. Side effect is that people (opponents and you) can’t be bothered looking for 6th men in their friendslist anymore and therefore making the warmup twice as long as the actual match. The plugin is hosted on Github, the installation is as easy as it was with TF2LOGS, again foolproof Copy & Paste only. You can find the latest version right here. Spawn points, which are necessary for the plugin to work, are already builtin for most competive maps. Awesome ³.

Without the SM plugin this is what you can still get: www.tf2logs.com/logs/3527 – which is fairly comprehensive imo – the only things missing are heal share and item pickups. Leftism is there a way to make it that the Server auto uploads the log file to TF2Logs and retrives the link ? That would be just.. perfect really.

What would be even better was if people had to upload not only the scores and status images, but also the log files to the etf2l match page so it would auto upload to TF2Logs. As the server owner you have access to all that easily, and since people already have to upload the status and match images..

	Arie - March 17th, 2012 - 01:34 SourceMod and other plugins have a tendency to break on updates and cause an increase in CPU usage of the server. So if you can do without plugins you get better performance and your server will still start when there’s an update ;) Log in to Reply - # - nice! +5
