During ETC’s three-day Orange Flag event military fighter and fighter/attack pilots simulate air-to-air tactical engagements in the ATFS-400 Phoenix, a sustained G motion platform, against NASTAR pilots or pilots from other countries, challenging their combat skills in a virtual tactical air combat environment.
Orange Flag Mission
Orange Flag provides a forum that encourages a free and open exchange of combat tactics and innovative ideas.
What is the ATFS-400?
The ATFS-400 Phoenix is a high-performance motion system that is “flown” just like a tactical aircraft, replicating the high G forces encountered in tactical flying. It features high fidelity cockpits with realistic flight controls, instrumentation, offensive & defensive weapons, high definition, and WFOV visuals. The virtual Battlespace combines AWACS, AAA, SAM, terrain, weather and other elements in the tactical environment making the ATFS-400 the most realistic, sustained G flight environment available for tactical training.
What Happens During Orange Flag?
Pilots fly Offensive & Defensive sorties, in a tactical fighter cockpit installed in the ATFS-400 and a Su-30 cockpit installed in the GyroFlight, that include sustained G tactical maneuvering. Each pilot can choose from a variety of flights including: BFM/Aerobatics, Formation Flights/Air-to-Air Refuel, Vectors to Bogies/A-A Weapons Release, Low-Level Strike with A-G Weapon Release, 1 v 1, Carrier Launch and Recover, Bogie intercept, Low-Level Strike.
