Blaze Authors’ Pet Project

Welcome to our Pet Project!
spacer

Many of us, authors and editors, adore animals, and we know that many of you do as well. We wanted to share some of our Pet Love here with you!

Our Current Pet Project is…

spacer

Safe Place cares for pets when a terminally ill owner no longer can.

Since the organization was founded by a Hospice nurse in 1996, they’ve helped over 500 pets become part of new, loving families – including 69 pets in 2010 – in the Pikes Peak region of Colorado, including Colorado Springs.

As always, please consider this shelter if you’re in the market for a pet, or just want to contribute to a very worthy cause.

Karen Foley discovered our second Pet Project. The Northeast Animal Shelter, located just a half hour north of Boston in historic Salem, is one of New England’s largest nonprofit shelters that does not destroy any of the pets entrusted to its care. They have placed over 100,000 dogs and cats since they opened their doors.

Two weeks ago, thirty-eight shelter dogs from Georgia were welcomed to New England to make room in southern shelters for other animals displaced by the terrible series of twisters. It was a 19-hour non-stop ride from Georgia in a specially outfitted Puppy Pipeline Rescue van, which has moved more than 4,000 dogs to no-kill shelters since 2007. The van travels at night so that the puppies can sleep much of the way. The recent shipment of puppies is just the first infusion of needy animals, with more to come from all over the hard-hit south.

The shelter has more than a hundred dogs, cats and kittens available for adoption. Maybe one of these animals is perfect for you.

What an awesome project, Blaze Authors! I love it!

Those kitties stole my heart – especially Blackjack, Paulie and Irish! Hope they and all the rescued cats and dogs find forever homes very quickly.

Tama, Dottie, & Bonnie are a good combination of what my cat Missy looked like… she had the longer hair like Tama and the facial features and had the coloring kinda like Dottie & Bonnie… I miss her so much… My cat was like a daughter to me… some people didn’t get it… I think it is awesome what you guys are doing. Three Cheers to the Blaze Authors!!! Hope all of those cats and dogs find loving caring homes very soon.

You ladies are just the best EVER!!!! My husband and I volunteer with a feline rescue here in Pennsylvania. It warms my heart to see you do such a wonderful thing with all of your talent. Our rescue, THE CAT SHACK, is also a 501(c) 3, non-kill rescue. We even take it a step farther and we will take in a cat or kitten that has been abused or is ill due to unforseen circumstances. We have found forever homes for severely burned, horribly mistreated and orphaned kittens that have had to be bottle fed to live. We will foot the bill for corrective surgery for any animal that shows a promise for a normal life after surgery. We even have a volunteer who has done “physical therapy” on cats that have CHP. And they have greatly improved under her care!

In a society like ours, where both human and animal life have been proven to be dispensable, your compassion and love with this project have earned you all your wings in heaven.

We at TCS would love to have any one of you in our corner.
    God Bless,
    Pamela

      Hi Pamela,

Do you think you could give me a contact name at The Cat Shack. There are a few legal issues we have to take care of before making it a Pet Project. Then I could pass it along to the authors. It sounds like a wonderful organization.

Thanks for all you do for the animals–and your support of Blaze. As a volunteer myself, I know how much work it can sometimes be. Yet there’s nothing more rewarding.

    Hi Brenda,

I had a chat tonight with one of the heads of THE CAT SHACK charity. She was thrilled to learn about your unusual approach to help charities like ours here at Blaze and she looks forward to hearing from you.

I do have contact information for you. We can be reached by email at Catshack@ptd.net, by snail mail at P.O. Box 950, Trexlertown, PA 18087-0950 or by telephone to Theresa one of the heads of the charity. For privacy reasons I would prefer to email you that phone number rather than post it here, if possible. Is there an email address I could send it to you at? If you would like to have a look at our website please do. It’s www.thecatshack.com. I believe as of last week we had over 150 cats and kittens looking to find their forever homes in our network of foster homes. (We are a completely foster organization.) So our animals are socialized and live mostly cage free as members of a loving family unit until adoption.

I am sure we could supply you lovely ladies here at Blaze with stories and photos of some of our most memorable successful adoptions to inspire you.

Thank you for your time today.
