KCPT’s Night On The Town in the Crossroads District

spacer

Our members and corporate partners joined KCPT for the April 10, 2012 Night on The Town. The festivities began at the Webster House with an introduction from Doug Frost and the Webster “House” made buttermilk & chive biscuit, white cheddar and jalapeno crostini, shrimp and grits “spoon” and ’09 Parducci “Small Lot Blend” Pinot Noir were served. Next stop was Snow & Co where “moonshine” was the topic and beverage of the night. Snow & Co served Scimeca’s meatball sliders on Farm to Market ciabatta with housemade vodka tomato cream sauce, portabella & sundried tomato pizza on lavosh and the drink was Purple Rain Frozen Cocktails.

The group marched down the street and around the corner to Nica’s 320 where Flamenco dancers and guitarists entertained the group. The menu at Nica’s was Sesame Encrusted Tilapia, Broccoli & Roasted Pepper Mac-n-cheese, Octopus Ceviche and featured beverages included Shanghai Lemonade and Velvet Rooster Tripel Belgian Ale. Our final stop was at the Croosroads Coffehouse. The evening ended with Raspberry Cream Cheese Turnovers and freshly brewed coffee. The weather was perfect, the food was great, beverages were outstanding and new friends were made.

Green Acres: Anita B. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center

spacer

In 2002, the Missouri Department of Conservation opened a unique facility on Troost Avenue in the heart of Kansas City designed to get young people in urban neighborhoods more connected with nature and the outdoors.

This week, The Anita Gorman Discovery Center is celebrating its 10th anniversary. For many visitors, The Discovery Center at 47th and Troost continues to be their first introduction to nature.

Surrounded by 10 acres of gardens, forests, wetlands and prairie, the Discovery Center beckons urban residents to visit and to learn. Randy Mason spoke with Stacey Davis, the center’s manager.
