SEA LIFE and KCPT Announce Winners!

The Park Hill South High School’s broadcasting class, The South Side Scoop, was the winning team of the SEA LIFE Aquarium – KCPT’s High School Broadcast Journalism Contest. The winning spot will air on KCPT Channel 19 during The Local Show April 5 at 7:30 PM. Tune in to watch how students were able to capture the arrival of the fish to their new homes at the SEA LIFE Aquarium in Kansas City.

KCPT & SEA LIFE Journalism Contest kickoff!

KCPT and SEA LIFE Aquarium Kansas City hosted a high school journalism contest March 15. Nine area high schools were given the opportunity to be on site as the first fish arrived at their new home. Over 30 students worked all day capturing footage to create a winning 2 minute spot that will air on KCPT’s The Local Show hosted by Nick Haines. Schools present: Bonner Springs, Lee’s Summit and Lee’s Summit North, North Kansas City, Oak Park, Park Hill and Park Hill South, Raytown and Kansas City Kansas School Districts.

KCPT’s K-12 Technology Conference a Big Success!

Alicia Levi, Vice President of PBS, was the guest speaker at the 9th Annual KCPT K-12 Technology Conference on February 15, 2012. Approximately 80 educators from area school districts attended the conference located at the Indian Creek Technology Center in the Shawnee Mission School District.

Martha Speaks Visits Gordon Parks

Gordon Parks Elementary is teaming up with KCPT and the Martha Speaks Reading Buddies Program. The program is a ten-week reading course placing fourth graders as Big Buddies with kindergarteners as Little Buddies. The Big Buddies work with the Little Buddies each week to watch an episode of Martha Speaks, learn four new words and read a book together. By the end of the program each kindergartner will have received 10 books to take home.

KCPT Partners with SEA LIFE Aquarium

Mendy Rose, Marketing Manager SEA LIFE Kansas City Aquarium and Matt Lowe, Account Executive SEA LIFE Kansas City Aquarium kicked off the KCPT and SEA LIFE high school broadcasting/journalism contest at KCPT. Ten area high schools were chosen to cover the arrival of the fish to their new home at SEA LIFE Aquarium Kansas City. The ten teams will go behind the scenes of the arrival of the fish and be able to interview those who are responsible for the delivery and care of over 5,000 creatures. The teams will be competing for the winning opportunity to not only have their feature air on KCPT’s The Local Show but be a member of the media coverage at the opening of the SEA LIFE Aquarium Kansas City. This will truly be an outstanding, once in a life time opportunity for all students involved.
