Chinese artist Yang returns
for reception, calligraphy session

Chinese artist HongDuan Yang returned to the Office of Lt. Governor Thursday to be greeted by dozens of people during a reception in his honor. Above Mao Qingwen, deputy consul for the Chinese consulate in San Francisco, presents a letter of appreciateion to the artist, whose work of scrolls, calligraphy and poems will be on display through June. The artist and two of his assistants also demonstrated their calligraphy skills, below. (Staff photos). spacer

Art work and calligraphy of Chinese master painter HongDuan Yang is now on display in the foyer of the Office of Lt. Gov. Owen in Olympia. Professor Yang's work is being featured through the Lt. Governor's Art Council. Read our news release for more information.

Aviation students from Sichaun Province
update Lt. Governor Owen on studies here

Several Chinese students from the Civil Aviation Flight University of China (CAFUC) in Guanghan in the Sichuan Province are studying aircraft maintenance at Clover Park Technical College in Lakewood and air traffic control at Green River Community College in Auburn in a two-year program. Five of these students visited with Lt. Gov. Owen and staff on March 29. In the photo above are students Huang Xiuyi and Zhang Qian from Clover Park and Zhu Yuran, Xu Yaozhou and Xu Fangcheng who are at Green River.

To the lieutenant governor's immediate right is Qiuqiu, the chief representative from the West China Development International Association, Inc., who coordinated the students' education in Washington. Also pictured is Abbie Fritz, executive coordinator for international programs at Green River CC, and, at the far right, Juliette Schindler Kelly, the lieutenant governor's chief of staff.
