Where Your Dreams Become Reality

Quote of the day:
"Forty years ago April 19, Jock Semple tried to throw me out of the Boston Marathon because I was a woman. In the few years since then, women's running has grown to the point where there are now more women participating in races than men, and the women marathoners have become the biggest stars of the sport.  This is nothing short of a social revolution and it has been a privilege being a part of making it happen; my memoir reflects much of this inspiring history."

-Katherine Swtizer, the first female participant with a race number in the Boston Marathon, writing in an article talking about how her autobiography will debut at this year's Boston.

IAAF Profile of European Silver Medallist and Lydiard Disciple Susanne Wigene A great read as the 29-year old runs to and from her job every day - to the tune of over 125 mpw (210 km). She describes her training with the Norwegian word rovdrift which means ruthless exploitation of a natural resource.

Kenya's Gideon Ngatuny Still Dreaming (and Talking) Very Big After 4th At World XC Ngatuny says he's going for gold in Osaka in the 10k and claims he might have won world xc if he hadn't been spiked 8km in. You'll be hearing a lot about this for years

Great Australian Swimmer Ian Thorpe's Possible Positive Test Leaks
It's pretty complicated but French sports daily L'Equipe reported that Thorpe showed an elevated T-E ratio and high levels of LH. Australia (sound like the old USATF?) said the test was inconclusive and threw it out but the world governing body for swimming (FINA) asked that it be appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The case reminds us very much of the Mary Slaney case in the US as Thorpe was a child prodigy at 14 who tested positive at the end of his career.

Bekele Is Defeated.
Wejo has called to say that Bekele's quest for a record 6th long course title didn't happen, as on the last lap just after he took a lead that Wejo was certain enough was big enough to get the win, Bekele suddenly lost it, dropped back and quickly dropped out as the Kenyan crowd went wild. Olympic 10k bronze medallist Zersenay Tadesse won Eritrea's first individual title. Wejo said the Kenyan crowd was unreal as people were watching from the trees. The atmosphere was way, way crazier than Boulder apparently.  He said the Kenyan crowd only seemed to care about two things - having a Kenyan in front in each race and seeing Bekele lose. He said they didn't really acknowledged ex-Kenyan Lornah Kiplagat who won the women's race. *Results here.
