About Wyomanock Center
Wyomanock Center was conceived to promote the ethos of sustainable living and environmental education. It will become a venue where people can learn about topics within the realm of sustainability, natural history and creative arts. This can be accomplished in many ways such as workshops, discussion groups, film screenings, camps and performance. Topics could include renewable energy, natural building, health and healing, primitive skills, nature study, to name a few.

Upcoming Programs for 2012
Volunteer Days! Sat, March 3, 10am is our inaugural volunteer day, which will be regularly held on the first Sat of each month, unless otherwise announced. We have a number of projects working on Wyomanock Center land, for example, trail building and invasive specie removal. We will also have off site projects that will benefit the community. Please contact us if you would like to suggest a community project. Meet at Wyo parking area, 68 Wyomanock Rd, Stephentown, NY (unless offsite work area TBA)
PS – all volunteers will leave with eggs or produce from Wyomanock Farm!
Sat, 3/10, 10am Volunteer Day Help out and get an overview of the interpretive trails we will construct over the course of the year. The work will consist of clearing light brush from the trail route. When completed, they will be available for public use. Wear sturdy shoes, wool socks and gloves - ground will be wet! Tools provided. Bring lunch!
Tues, 3/20, 6pm Vernal Equinox Potluck - join us at the PV powered and recycled Dean House (299 Newton Rd, corner Rte 43, stephentown ctr). Bring a dish, if possible – early helpers welcome! thom@designwithearth.com
Thurs, 3/29, 6pm Photovoltaics presentation by Olya Prevo of Real Goods Solar. Learn about this proven, cost effective and sensible green technology which is within almost anyones’ grasp, now with a no money down leasing option, guaranteed to lower your electric utility bill. Real Goods will donate 500$ of each installation purchased or leased through this presentation to Wyomanock Center and the Stephentown Library.
Fri, 4/6, 6pm First Friday Pizza/Potluck – We’ll fire up the cob oven for the pizza – the tradition continues. At Wyomanock Farm.
Sat, 4/7, 10am Volunteer Day Wyomanock Center – Come join us for some light duty trail work at Wyomanock. Wear sturdy shoes, wool socks and work gloves – ground will be wet! Tools provided. Bring lunch!
Wed, 4/11, 1pm – 2:30 Build a Bluebird Nestbox – for kids and adults, materials provided. Learn about the official bird of NYS and their nesting habits and needs. Workshop will be at the Stephentown Memorial Library, NYS Rte 43, Stephentown, NY 12168

Sat, 4/21, 11am – 12:30 Interpretive Walk – join us at Wyomanock Farm, with naturalist David Hunt, for the first in a series of interpretive walks through the seasons. Find out what makes this land special, from an ecological perspective. County and regionally rare plants and plant communities can be observed here – even a globally rare plant community, as identified by Mr. Hunt. Walking may be wet and rough. Meet at parking area of Wyomanock Farm, 68 Wyomanock Rd, Stephentown, NY. donation requested 5-10$.
Thurs, 4/26, 7pm Film Screening of “Trashed” This film examines the American waste stream and analyzes the causes and effects of the seemingly innocuous act of “taking out the garbage” . Showcased are the individuals, activists,corporate and advocacy groups working to affect change and reform the current model. “Trashed” is an informative and thought-provoking film everyone interested in the future of sustainability should see. Sat, 4/28, 10am Volunteer Day (one week early) at Wyomanock Center - ’Trees for Tribs’! A NYS DEC funded program to improve riparian buffers. We will be planting native trees and shrubs in our buffers around the Wyomanock Creek to broaden our specie diversity. Several volunteers needed. Please bring a shovel, if possible!
Thurs, 5/24, 7pm Film Screening of “Small Farm Rising” (60min) This documentary depicts the farm life of three first generation Adirondack and Lake Champlain farms in upstate NY. It is an excellent representation of the real life trials and tribulations – and rewards – faced by young farmers. This has been well received by real farm folk. Its short on dialogue, which allows you to absorb the story thru the fantastic imagery. At the Stephentown Library, 472 Rte 43, Stephentown, NY

Sat, 6/9, 2:30pm The Cattail Walk The ubiquitous and native cattail plant, inhabiting shallow water wetlands, is not always known for its culinary value. Join Thom Pecoraro, Director of the Center, for an interpretive walk along the Wyomanock Creek. You’ll learn about the vision of Wyomanock Center and then harvest (if you wish) and taste the different components of our cattail plant. A prepared salad (with cattail, native and farmed greens) will be a available to top it off. Meet at Wyomanock Center parking. 5$ students, 10$ adults
