Fundraising for Kids through Basketball – Toon Boom plays at Hoop Fest 2012

Posted in Animation, community, Event, gaming, news with tags Basketball, fundraising, non-profit, Trevor Williams Kids Foundation, TWKF on May 7, 2012 by Toon Boom Guy

Toon Boom took part in Hoop fest 2012 on Sunday, 6 May at Lower Canada College in Montreal. A fun time was had by all. The coaching was great and the team really pulled together to win and we won both of the games which we were scheduled to play. Congratulations! Check out the video below.

Here are some photos on our Facebook page

Toon Boom has always maintained a connection to sport and social causes.  Our latest connection helps kids by our taking  part in a fundraising basketball tournament for the Trevor Williams Kids Foundation (TWKF).

The Trevor Williams Kids Foundation is a non- profit organization dedicated to teaching life skills to youth; helping them stay in school, keeping them off the streets, and encouraging them to become contributing members of their community.

Earlier in April, we invited  Trevor Williams, President of the Trevor Williams Kids Foundation and former Olympian to come to our offices here in Montreal.  He arrived along with David Berger, former Canadian delegate to Israel and now a director of  TWKF.

Mr. Williams spoke about how he and his team are organizing, for the 8th year, a fundraising basketball tournament Hoop Fest 2012. The proceeds of which will be used to support the Foundation’s programs including learning through sports, basketball, anger management, social skills, reading/math and afterschool tutoring programs. He also mentioned the  use of P.L.U.S. Zone –Positive Learning Using Sports  to get kids actively involved in physical exercise and the benefits that has on life skills.  P.L.U.S. Zone is aimed at improving physical health and athletic ability, as well as teaching the values of teamwork, respect and perseverance.

Trevor Williams  grew up in Little Burgundy, an inner-city Montreal neighborhood.  His perseverance and basketball skills landed him the opportunity of a lifetime – a basketball scholarship to an American university and a chance to play for the Canadian 1992 and 1993 Olympic Basketball Teams.
