Riverside Speedway Car Show A Success
In my opinion,
there may be nothing better than waking up early on a Saturday, with
the sun shining, birds chirping, and race cars firing. We were blessed
with such an occasion as hundreds of fans showed their support today
at the NAPA Car Show in downtown Groveton, NH.
"I've never seen this
street so full" said North Country Ford Late Model division driver
Jeff Marshall. "I've lived around here since I was 4 years old. This
is great!"
"The businesses
said it was phenomenal" Riverside Speedway Pit Steward and
Northumberland Town Clerk Min Marshall Kennett exclaimed. "I've never
seen so many people invade this street in Groveton in my life."
Fans packed the street,
as 52 cars lined State Street in downtown Groveton. Children were
smiling, drivers were signing autographs, and fans of all ages got to
interact with their favorite racers. At 1 o'clock, all of the cars
were fired up, and were lead by the Northumbland Police, Groveton Fire
Department, and the Groveton Ambulance service. Children were seen
waving to the drivers, people lining the road, waiting to take
pictures of the beautiful machines that were on display.
At the track, awards
were presented to the most appealing cars in each division. In the
Kingdom Embroidery Daredevils division, #4 Dylon Laleme took home top
honors with his Chevy S10 pickup truck. Traci Nelson took home
hardware for her #5 Pontiac Sunfire in the Ouellette Trucking Angels
Division. In the Amoskeag Beverage Twisted Tea Dwarf Car Division, #27
Aric Cole took home the trophy. #9 Dana Graham took home top honors in
the Town and Country Motor Inn Street Stocks with his Ford Fiesta. The
North Country Ford Late Models saw #13 Luke Shannon take home first
place, and #14 Mike Paquette won best appearance in the Sign Depot
Outlaw Sportsman division, as well as receiving the People's Choice
Award for best looking car overall, as voted by fans, drivers, and
crew at the car show.
Tomorrow, the
NAPA Spectacular and Bobby Shores Memorial kicks off the 2012 racing
season at Riverside Speedway. Pit Gates open at 9AM, grandstands at
11AM, with post time at 1PM. Mothers, as a special gift to you on your
day of celebration, the first 50 mothers accompanied with children
will receive FREE grandstand admission. There will also be a special
appearance by the gold medal winning Groveton High School Band. See
you there!!!

A Closer Look at Amoskeag Beverage Twisted
Tea Dwarfs
In a time of a weak economy, finding deals and
making your money go longer is the norm, and even expected. Racing is no
different. Sponsors are more important than ever, and making your dollar go
farther is sometimes just as important as speed. One of the better ways to
conquer both is the Amoskeag Beverage Twisted Tea Dwarf Cars at Riverside
Speedway.
In racing, speed doesn't usually come cheap. Motor, tires, knowledge, can
sometimes dig into your pockets. Welcome the Amoskeag Beverage Twisted Tea
Dwarf Cars. "They are screaming little rockets...speed and handling for the
price is dirt cheap compared to other divisions" says Jeremy Labrecque, who
finished 7th in points in the division last year. According to Labrecque,
the rules are designed to keep the cost down, with the stock motors, and
other low cost parts. Second year driver Daniel Brofman also took advantage
of the availability of speed for a low cost. After sitting in Dave Dion's
Busch East car @ Berlin City at 10 years of age, and working on Matt
LeBlanc's truck at 14, Brofman jumped at the chance to drive a Dwarf because
of the size and cost. "The tires last longer, and you can use regular pump
gas, so that helps keep cost down" Brofman says.
Another veteran, Kevin Scott Hockman, was drawn to the division by looks, as
well as price. Hockman was at a race watching Ernie Laplant drive his number
28. "When I saw them roll onto the track, and saw that some of them were
shaped like old coupes, I looked at my other half, Sue, and said I LIKE
THESE!' Hockman exclaimed. Hockman warns that it's not all fun and games
though. "They are a blast to drive, but very touchy. They are super easy to
spin out. Just the slightest turn of the wheel or touch of the brake in the
right spot and your going around." Hockman also says because of the speed,
these cars hit hard, so it's imperative that you have a solid car.
One thing that seems to be a common denominator with these drivers, is that
they all love this division. Each driver explained how they hooked up with
another driver to start their careers. The drivers all seem to bond together
to help another driver out. "I love these cars, and the guys I race with"
Hockman says. "We kinda all work together, and you don't see that in the
other divisions. When one of us breaks down or needs a part, we all scramble
to help each other. That's pretty special right there." Come see for
yourselves what makes this division who they are.

Family Still a Huge Part of
Riverside...
One thing that has not changed at Riverside, is that
racing can turn into a family matter. Whether its everyone racing, or one
racer, and dad as a crew chief, brothers and cousins as crew members, mom
as scorer and cooker, whatever, Riverside can bring everyone together. The
2012 season proves to be more of the same.
The Wyman Motorsports crew is no exception to this rule.
Jason will be in the Dwarf car ranks, which isn't a surprise to everyone
that was at last years Frost Bite 250, when Wyman put a strong run to end
the season. Wyman has also bought another Dwarf car, which will be piloted
by Jeff Ainsworth. Jeremy Wyman, Jason's brother, will be putting together
a run at the championship in the Street Stocks. Not to be outdone, Jason's
wife Vickie will be competing in the Angels division. Talk about some late
nights at the shop there...
Another racing family will be competing this summer at
Riverside. Vanessa Brown will be racing a full season in the Angels with a
new Dodge Neon. Sister Allison Barney will be at the helm of a Pontiac
Sunfire, but on a part-time basis. Barney's husband Josh will be testing
the waters in the Street Stock division. Racing must be in the water in
that household.
Amongst other racing families, people have been busy
prepping for another go at it. Luke Shannon has revamped his Late Model,
and despite the loss of some sponsors, has his eyes set on challenging for
the title. The Gilcris family will also be back at the track, but in a cut
back role. Sponsorship trouble has forced Nick to run part time in the 4
cylinder class, as opposed to the Late Model division. Brother Cole Kilby
will join him with his famed Ford Probe, converted to a Street Stock with
the combining of the Cyclones and Streets. Dennis O'Brien will again drive
in the Dwarfs, with new teammate Robert Stanley Jr behind the powerplant
in the team car. O'Brien has also been busy turning wrenches on Dan
Brofman's ride for the 2012 season.
Time is running short for racers to prep their cars, and
with this beautiful weather as of late, the racing season will be here
before you know it. We hope your family will join our racing family at the
track this season, feel free to stop us and say hi, and enjoy the rest of
your Spring. Burnt rubber and racing fuel is just around the corner...
