WARNING

Read the Reloading Safety Rules before starting the reloading process in the first part of the Reloading Manual.

Since Nammo Lapua Oy has no possibility to control either the handling or storage of the reloading components or the reloading process itself, Nammo Lapua Oy can not accept any liability for the possible direct or indirect effects of the use of Lapua/Vihtavuori components.

NOTE: Reloading data.

All the latest available reloading data can be found in pdf format in our downloads section in Vihtavuori Reloading Guide. We update the guide regularly. For reloading questions, please check the latest edition, or search the Vihtavuori Reloading Guide caliber by caliber in our Reloading Database.

Reloading process.

Only cases with known origin are to be used for reloading. Use only cases shot by yourself or f.ex. used Lapua factory loaded cartridges or cases sold as components. They are always a reliable choice. All cases have to be checked thoroughly before the reloading process for possible damages.

1 Depriming.

The primer is removed through the hole in the middle of the primer pocket with a suitable tool. The easiest way is to use a reloading press. Depriming can also be performed during sizing.

2 Resizing the case neck.

When cartridges are to be used again with the same weapon, resizing only the neck is an adequate procedure. This reduces the strain on the case compared to full resizing. The case nece is resized to its original dimensions with an appropriate collar. Remember lubrication.

3 Cleaning the primer pocket.

The primer pocket is cleaned from all shooting deposit. At the same time it is good to visually check that the powder pocket has not expanded due to pressure.

4 Belling the case mouth.

Also the case mouth is cleaned. The case mouth is belled, expanded, slightly to enable the bullet heel to enter the case mouth using finger pressure.

5 Priming.

The priming can be done with a hand tool or a bench tool. A major benefit of hand-held priming tools is the ability to feel the primer touching the bottom of the pocket in the case, giving more consistent and even seating. Also an expanded powder pocket is easier to detect. All case lubrication oils have to be cleaned off before the priming. Protective eye wear is to be used.

6 Charging the case.

The powder charge is poured into the case with a powder funnel. It is important to check the charge with a reliable and accurate powder scale. Advanced handloaders use a powder measure, a thrower. The thrower inserts a set weight of a powder directly into the case. A certain routine with the charging process is vital - both an empty case and a double load are dangerous.

7 Bullet seating.

Finally, the bullet is inserted into the neck of the sized, primed and charged cartridge case with the press using a seating die. The overall length of the cartridge must follow the reloading guide instructions to ensure accuracy and to avoid loading problems.

8 Final inspection.

The reloaded cartridge is inspected and any remining case lube is wiped off. A visual check is performed to ensure that everything is in order. Details of the cartridge batch (case, primer, powder, bullet etc) is made and filed. The cartridges are packed and marked for easy identification, even after a storage period.
