debt: something really fantastic

Lately I’ve been trying to lead my day-to-day life by what I’m calling “The Principle of Say Yes!”. This means I’ll accept an offer to do something or try something new (say yes!). To what? Anything provided I have the time and its not illegal or immoral (and even there I have a sliding scale, haha). This little practice is meant to help me see things in life that I otherwise might miss. Take chances. Live a little. Try it sometime.

Does this mean its easy? No. Often it means entering my discomfort zone. And sometimes I regret it.

So a few days ago I was contacted by someone who reads this blog. Specifically, the people who run DebtFolio. Would I like to meet in person? You know, meet people who know more about my financial life, than, say, my own mother?

Its like a new kind of naked.

Initially my thought was: Sure, right, ax-murderers!

Besides… if we meet in person they’ll discover — eek! — that I’m not as tall as I’d like people to believe!

But I said yes! And you know what? I am so, so glad I did.

I have to say that Shawn and Pete are some of the absolutely nicest, coolest guys you’ll meet. And smart, too, — and I like ‘em cute and smart! But this was no internet-dating thing. We chatted about their service, DebtFolio.

I have to share with you that I am so impressed by their mission… not just as a business but the plans they have to make it easy for the layperson to take an overall, holistic look at their financial situation. Their goal is provide the tools needed to chart your personal financial course. Debtfolio will allow you to compare competing products without marketing hype, usurious fees, or discovering that (hello!) once you entered your private contact details you’re flooded by predatory financial “offers”. Hey, this is new, too: a company that understands YOU’RE SMART ENOUGH TO MAKE YOUR OWN DECISIONS!

As for plans, they are starting with debt management (the biggest issue for many of us) and will eventually be moving into other sectors of our financial lives. Yes, it is a business. But you can’t fake genuine. And these guys have a genuine mission to empower the consumer. And I like that. A lot!

So I urge you to “say yes” yourself and check out what’s being built at Debtfolio. Its still very much “in-the-works” stages but it is free and you can help them by kicking the tires and giving them the feedback to make it the best service available.

Debtfolio is really going to be something fantastic. Check it out now so that some day you can say, “oh, Debtfolio? Sure, I know about that. I’ve been using it for years….”
