About Me

My skills, experience, and achievements

My name is Daniel and I work as a freelance web designer and front-end developer in the vibrant and exciting city of Sydney. I have been in the industry for over 7 years and love the way it has progressed and changed.

My Skills

Things I Can Do!

I like to think of myself as a digital handyman (a euphemism for a jack-of-all-trades!). I excel at hand-coding HTML(x/4/5) and CSS (2/3), combining this with highly proficient graphic design. I am also experienced in jQuery/Javascript, and PHP applications such as WordPress and OpenCart.

I have also been commissioned (by the University of the Arts London, e.g.) to evaluate and research user experience (web) due to my knowledge of design theory, visual literacy and good web practice.

Employers and clients consistently praise my understanding of different modes of communication. I have managed web teams (of self-professed ‘geeks’) and dealt with a huge variety of clients with various levels of web experience. Yes, I can speak web geek. But I can also speak business, corporate and artistic. (And some Japanese…)

You can find a full list of my skills in my combined Portfolio & CV (PDF). You can also find out how I can help you – please view my services page.

Experience

Where I’ve worked the magic!

I am lucky to have worked for a whole number of very cool clients and employees. Amongst the highlights are the work I did for Texas Instruments Europe (they’re a pretty big fish!) and my time spent on contract (4yrs) with the University of the Arts London (another big fish!) – but I also love all the little projects, including a website that I donated to Aid For Japan’s Bunkasai Club in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami disasters in 2011 and a quirky and unique collaboration with illustrator Carla Koala.

My portfolio has plenty of examples of my work, and you can also download my Portfolio & CV (PDF) to get a more comprehensive picture. If you have a good project and need someone to help you realise your vision on the web, contact me and I will be able to make it happen for you.

Personal Stuff

My interests outside of the wonderful world of the web

Brought up in a family of arts-loving teachers, I am totally in love with all things ‘visual/aesthetic’. I would admit to being a total cinephile – check out my film review tumblr blog or my criticker profile. I am also part of metal band Heroica, and craft a few pieces for my solo project LOGIMUS.

As a secret passion, I’m a massive fan of Japanese pro-wrestling and catch-as-catch-can wrestling. I love staying fit and active and my family has nicknamed me ‘GI’ because of my high regard for a low Glycemic Index diet.

Righto, that’s enough about me. Look forward to working with you!
