Fired Up Young Workers Organize Our Future in Boston

The 2nd Annual "Organizing Our Future" conference hosted by the Greater Boston Labor Council Futures Committee was held on February 26th at the Boston Teachers Union Hall.  85 union members, community activists and students, 35 and under, were in attendance.  The purpose of this conference was to empower, educate and connect young union members around Boston to be more knowledgeable and active in their local unions, in their communities and the Greater Boston Labor Council Futures Committee.

GBLC Stands in Solidarity with Machinists at Ernie Boch Honda

On Sunday February 19th approximately 250 members of the Machinists union and leaders and activists from GBLC affiliated unions protested the lack of progress in first contract talks outside Ernie Boch Honda on the auto-mile in Norwood. Thirty mechanics and technicians employed by Boch Honda voted for IAM union representation in November of 2010 and over twenty unfair labor practice charges have been filed by the IAM as Boch refuses to bargain in good faith.

Community Labor United Stands with Building Trades in Marriott Fight

Community Labor United, [CLU] the Greater Boston Labor Council’s sister organization is standing strong with the Boston Building Trades Council in its struggle with the Marriot Copley and Host Hotels. A major renovation of the Hotel’s 1,100 rooms is underway utilizing a contractor who has hired a largely out of state workforce receiving sub-standard wages and no benefits. Unions Support Occupy Boston

Over 300 union members and protesters at Occupy Boston joined forces on October 13, 2011 to demand good jobs and protest the abuses of Wall Street. Rich Rogers, Executive Secretary Treasurer of the Greater Boston Labor Council, AFL-CIO opened up the program with Darlene Lombos, the Executive Director of Community Labor United.
