The Challenge

With c.12 million people in the UK owning NFC enabled cards and 43,000 contactless payment terminals already installed in the UK, Proxama worked in association with Tuxedo Money Solutions and MasterCard to develop an end-to-end mobile NFC payment solution that could be used by organizations wishing to launch mobile contactless payment services. The application needed to be simple, secure and easy to use.

Our approach

Using a consultative approach we worked with MasterCard and other project partners to define the solution requirements, this lead to the production of a user-driven slide deck and detailed integration plans for the proposed scope of work. Proxama developed a mobile phone based wallet application and worked in collaboration with Tuexdo Money to deliver an end-to-end Pre-Pay Mobile Wallet solution.

Benefits

  • The first end-to-end contactless prepaid mobile phone payment solution in the UK.
  • The mobile wallet is quick and simple to use, contactless payments are on average 12.5 seconds faster than cash payments, most consumers have their phone at hand.
  • Replaces the need to carry multiple payment cards, links all payment accounts onto one device.
  • Consumers can monitor spending and budgeting via their handset, giving them further control over their finances

The Solution

Mobile Wallet

The mobile wallet is a client application which can be installed on NFC enabled mobile phones. The wallet allows users to draw funds down from their Tuxedo Money account, and make low value transactions at NFC enabled retailers. Proxama developed the mobile Wallet application, including the client software and phone user interface.

The Software

NFC Mobile Payment API

An NFC Mobile Payment API was developed to allow different elements of the system to communicate. The mobile wallet application can understand and connect to both the Eccount website and secure server.

Middleware

Proxama created the middleware allowing the Eccount website and API to connect to the mobile wallet..

Security

Proxama partnered with FIS, G&D, ABnote Europe to provide a pre-paid Account Platform, Transaction Processing Engine, HSM (hardware security module) and secure server.

spacer Results

Proxama was responsible for the management and successful delivery of this project and the end result is a mobile ‘wallet’ application that can be used at any retailer with contactless payment terminals today. Users can simply and securely manage their funds via their handset as well as online with unique PIN authentication
