B., 2010.  Powering the Future: A Scientist’s Guide to Energy Independence, FT Press.  How the United States can make a transition away from dependence on foreign oil and, extending that, away from fossil fuels.  The book chooses the year 2050 as the year that this transition would be desirable, and explains how it can be achieved, making use of the current technologies, costs, area requirements, and resources needed for each major energy type.  The result is no pie-in-the-sky, but is based on best available facts.  Available as a hard-copy and Kindle book.

Botkin, D. B. and E. A. Keller, Environmental Science: Earth as a Living Planet, 8th edition published December 2010 by John Wiley & Sons.  First published in 1991, this book has remained one of the major textbooks in the field. The 8th edition is the first major restructuring of the book, with fewer chapters, suited to the needs and approaches of 21st century introductory courses about Environmental Science.  It is used widely in colleges, universities, community colleges, and for high school AP courses.
