Everyone in New Jersey is surrounded by hundreds of ethnic restaurants, but it’s hard to find the best ones quickly, when you’re hungry.
EthnicNJ.com is trying to find New Jersey’s best ethnic food.
There are plenty of reviews out there. If you’re like me, before heading out to eat, you might search for recommendations online, flip through a restaurant guide, or look for that magazine article you shoved in the drawer a month ago. But Jersey restaurant reviews are hit or miss – it takes time to figure out who’s reliable – and New Jersey coverage can be weak. (We don’t go out to eat as much as Manhattanites.) The information that leads me to wonderful ethnic food is cobbled together from different places. By the time I have a list of places to try, my kids are screaming at me.
EthnicNJ.com is the website I’ve always wanted. All the best ethnic food I’ve found, in one place, on one map, with links to the reviews I found helpful. I also list the places I’m dying to try, based on what I’ve read or heard. I’ll visit them eventually, and my favorites will change. Share your favorites, I’ll add them to my lists, and the EthnicJersey.com map will grow. Sixteen featured cuisines so far – Chinese, Costa Rican, Ethiopian, Indian, Irish, Italian, Pizza, Japanese, Mexican, Peruvian, Portuguese, Thai, Vietnamese, Diner (New Jersey), Burgers (American) and Hot Dogs (American) – more to come as I find enough places to recommend.
Obviously, there’s more delicious ethnic food in New Jersey than one person could ever find. EthnicNJ.com is based in Maplewood, NJ, so many of the places I visit are concentrated in North/Central Jersey and Essex county. I know there’s a ton of awesome food in Bergen and Hudson counties (Bergenline Avenue alone deserves its own website), Newark is underrepresented (the Brazilian category is coming!), and Camden and Trenton need more listings. Help build my South Jersey lists – I need an excuse to take the kids to the shore and my wife to AC. I want to find stand-out ethnic food in all 21 New Jersey counties, so let’s hear about ethnic restaurants in Warren, Sussex, Gloucester, Salem and Cumberland!
