Welcome to HR Wallingford's events websiteHere you'll find information about our programme of seminars, workshops, courses and conferences - simply click on an event title for more details.
HR Wallingford provides world-leading analysis, advice and support in engineering and environmental hydraulics and in the management of water and the water environment. Our open programme of events covers a wide range of topical subjects in this area. Regular fixtures include
Armourstone Users Group Meeting River Hydrology and Hydraulics CourseFlood risk analysis and Management Course. Events covering flood management, urban drainage, engineering materials, coastal engineering and structures also make regular appearances on our programme. With all these events, our overriding aim is to present current information on best practice techniques and regulations as well as emerging technologies. Our seminars and workshops are designed to bring together the leading national and international authorities to present up-to-date information to delegates drawn from the water, environment and civil engineering industries. Our longer courses aim to develop the participants' ability to adopt current best practice techniques, and to apply new research, under the guidance of experienced engineers and researchers by including practical exercises and discussion groups. In addition to our open programme of events we also provide structured courses, either based on our standard course materials or specially prepared, to organisations throughout the world. HR Wallingford also has an impressive track record in institutional strengthening through technology collaboration and transfer, which includes major projects in Venezuela, Vietnam, Hong Kong, China, India, Bangladesh, Philippines and Indonesia. The TELEMAC-MASCARET system is an open source suite of codes for 1D, 2D, and 3D free surface flows and processes. It is jointly developed and distributed by EDF-LNHE, HR Wallingford, ARTELIA, BAW, CETMEF and STFC-DL for civil engineering and environmental hydraulics consultancy and research applications.
The pre-conference workshops will take place at HR Wallingford, Howbery Park on 16-17 October 2012 . This pre-conference event is aimed at users of the system who wish to better understand and clear out doubts on processes and features.
The TELEMAC-MASCARET User Conference will take place in St Hughs College, Oxford on 18-19 October 2012. The conference is for civil and environmental hydraulics engineers, researchers and students, whether they are existing users of the system or just curious about it. Participants are invited to simply attend or participate as speaker.

| | Wave overtopping for coastal and shoreline defences (EurOtop) courseAutumn 2012
Contact us to register your interest
The course will introduce the EurOtop manual and will present established and new techniques to predict wave overtopping at seawalls, flood embankments, breakwaters and other shoreline structures. The main presentations will describe each of the main methods available for predicting overtopping, including desk calculations, use of the Neural network tool, PC Overtopping and EurOtops online Calculation Tool. Example calculations and case studies will be used to illustrate key methods. Literative or explicit approaches to setting a crest level will be illustrated.
| | Exposed jetties, piers and dolphins courseDate to be confirmed NEW COURSE FOR 2012
This one day course is primarily focussed on the prediction of wave forces on the upper parts of piers, elevated jetties, and similar types of suspended decks over water. Any wave loads on elevated beams and decks can be particularly destructive as most such structures were originally designed to be elevated above wave crests. With future sea levels projected to rise by around 1m, many existing structures may encounter wave loads in future for which they were not designed.
