Another exciting year has passed and The Erie Drifter team is on the move! The Walleye Fishing this past year was very good with some trophy Lake Erie Walleyes and great Smallmouth Bass Fishing for starters. Lake Ontario King Salmon Fishing also remains extremely good with limit catches and giant salmon to boot!

The spring walleye bite started out as normal until the winds picked up and actually drove us off the lake. High winds and muddy water really kept us from creating a banner spring bite. We cancelled and rescheduled many trips in order not to ruin our reputation. We realize that you are heart of our business, we will not bring you to Lake Erie with heavy winds and unfishable conditions period.

After the winds subsided we hammered the walleyes mostly trolling because the bite was just not happening for limit catches. The smallmouth bass fishing was another story, we found these “jumpers” on the shallow reefs and boy did they come in force! All were caught casting tube jugs and drifting the reef complex close to home.

This has been an unbelievable year with the addition of Master Captain Mark Beard and the purchase of our second Custom Sportcraft. “The Drifter” is a very clean 30 foot Sportcraft with the latest state of the art electronics and amenities for a safe and enjoyable Lake Erie charter experience. Captain Mark has fished this incredible fishery day and night for many years and he has proven to have the knowledge and ability to put you on the best fishing Lake Erie and Lake Ontario have to offer.

We have also purchased another 2 bedroom 2 bathroom mobile home lodge and a 1 bedroom Condominium with a 30 foot boat slip for clients who wish to bring their own boat or just stay in luxury. The waterfront condo is fully furnished with all the modern accommodations. Out lodging is top notch and we strive in keeping our places spotless for your enjoyment.

We predict that the spring and early summer bit will be very goof with some monster walleyes, and bass fishing should be excellent. Also, with the Canadian fishing license available to our clients at www.on.wildlifelicense.com we can now fish Canadian waters that have been virtually unfished in the early season of the Western Basin of Lake Erie. Folks, the prime dates are filling up fast, so please book your trip of a lifetime soon!

Big King Salmon are back! As usual Lake Ontario in Point Breeze, NY continues to be world class in every way. Creel surveys have shown that many mature salmon were longer and heavier than the average past three years. While salmon in other Great Lakes, the west coast, or even parts of Alaska are experiencing various difficulties, the fishing here is great and booming! Take advantage of this great fishery and all its attractions right in your backyard. Our largest King Salmon this year was 34 pounds! The largest salmon we have ever caught, and proud of it!

As we go to press the rising cost of gasoline and diesel fuel threaten to harm both the economic recovery and people’s plans for the summer. Fortunately, taking advantage of the great recreational opportunities here in Ohio and New York can be affordable. World class fishing is a short distance away and costs here are very reasonable compared to other areas. As always, be sure to involve youngsters in the fun of being outdoors and enjoy fishing with your friends and family.
