Daily Monastic Schedule
Ours is a relatively simple life composed of:
- communal and private prayer
- sacred reading
- study
- manual labor
- service to the brethren
- and hospitality
Seven times a day we gather for the Opus Dei beginning with Vigils in the middle of the night and ending with Compline in the early evening. Eucharist is concelebrated daily at different times depending on the monastic schedule.
Along with the prayer of praise (...by night I will sing to him, praise the God of my life... Ps. 42:9) and thanksgiving (...it is good to give thanks to the Lord, to make music to your name, O most high... Ps. 92:1), the prayer of intercession and petition (...I rise before dawn and cry for help, I hope in your word... Ps. 119:147) has always been an important component of monastic prayer.
Throughout the day there is a balance between work, reading, solitude and community life, as shown in a typical schedule below. Below are the names of the hours of the divine office celebrated by the community. Our Divine Office page offers an explanation of and reflection on the Divine Office.
