World Water Forum
Regions United/FOGAR played a special role during this Conference. In partnership with the Network of Regional Governments for Sustainable Development nrg4SD, member of Regions United-FOGAR, it organized, as part of the 3rd International Conference, a Session of Regions and Federated States.
This Session, entitled ""Towards better water governance: the solutions of the regional actors", provided an opportunity for Regions, Federated States and sub-national governments from the five continents to present, each one from its specific characteristics, the prospective actions of planning and management of water resources implemented in their territories. We think that one of the strengths of regional governments is to be able to offer mid and long-term strategic visions while acting as close to citizens as possible. Through the mobilization of our networks, this session of Regions and Federated States brought a specific contribution to the debate, namely the illustration of the added value of the territorial approach and the multilevel governance.
In the framework of the Forum, local and regional political representatives were also able to discuss and present the solutions implemented, as well as to create new partnerships and to participate in regional trialogues that brought together national parliamentarians and ministers. In this respect, the articulation with national and international policies including United Nations programs was crucial.
You will find all relevant information about the process of Local and Regional Authorities on the website of the 6th World Water Forum: www.worldwaterforum6.org/en/commissions/political/.
