Kick Ass Mountain Bike Enduro

Enough about ornery EEOR; let’s talk about Saturday’s mountain bike enduro race.

First, are you ready for a little suffering? You’d better be! There’s enough vertical gain built into this mountain bike race that you’ll think you’re on your way to heaven. But what goes up will surely come down—fast! So prepare yourself for a kick-in-the-pants race that’s sure to ruin a few britches as well.

spacer The venue for the bike race is the Canmore Nordic Centre, known for hosting regional, national, and World Cup caliber mountain biking events. You might remember the Canmore Nordic Centre as home to the 1988 Olympic alpine skiing and cross-country events. But where there’s great skiing in winter, there’s great mountain biking in summer. The Canmore Nordic Centre has over 100km of single and double-track mountain biking trails that will make even the most persistent but loveable pessimist smile!

But watch out for ornery EEOR. He’s waiting around every bend. Just when you start to have fun, EEOR’s there…waiting to put his vertical hooves to your burning thighs and calloused behind!

Solo bike racers can choose either 25 km, 50 km or 100 km.

Bike Divisions
- Solo 25 km, 50 km or 100 km

Mountain Mule Trail Run

Now, a little about Sunday’s Mountain Mule Trail Run

spacer Day 2 (Sunday) of Rundle’s Revenge is reserved for runners…and EEOR, of course! And where you can ride, you can run. As it does with mountain biking, the Canmore Nordic Centre plays host to world-class trail running events. Run the same trails participants ran the day before…through lush mountain forests, across flowing streams, over rocky outcroppings, and under pristine blue sky.

Get ready to feel the burn, though! EEOR’s got elevation to spare and has a bad habit of throwing it at you when your legs are hurting most. But suffering is good for the soul, right? Run solo or with friends in the Team Relay.

If you’re a lone wolf and choose to go it alone, you can choose between 12.5 km, 25 km and 50 km distances.

- Solo 12.5 km, 25 km or 50 km

The Iron Donkey Challenge

Are you as stubborn as EEOR? Think you can beat him? Then bring it! We’ve created the Iron Donkey Challenge for stubborn mules just like you. The Iron Donkey Challenge combines both events, mountain biking on Saturday and trail running on Sunday. Go for the Half Donkey, the Full Donkey, or the Team Donkey.

Donkey Lite combines the 25 km bike and the 12.5 km run
Half Donkey combines the 50 km bike and the 25 km run.
Full Donkey combines the 100 km bike and the 50 km run.
Team Donkey combines the 10-hour bike relay with the 8-hour run relay with teams composed of 5 members.

So bring on the Donkey!

About Mount Rundle and the Canmore Nordic Centre
Mount Rundle was named after Reverend Robert Rundle, one of
Canada’s most respected missionaries. Made up of massive
limestones, Mount Rundle is very popular with scramblers, a cross
between hill climbers and rock climbers.

At the base of Mount Rundle lies the town of Canmore, which has been classified as a wildlife corridor, allowing bear, cougars, wolves, elk, and dear to move between habitat areas in search of food, birthing areas, and refuge from predators. Canmore is also home to the Canmore Nordic Centre.

The Canmore Nordic Centre was constructed for the 1988 Winter Olympic Games and has played host to much more than skiing and winter events.

It’s made up of a world-class trail system used heavily by
cross country skiers, mountain bikers, hikers, and trail runners.

spacer The Alberta Government gave the Canmore Nordic Centre official
provincial park status and in 2005, redeveloped the centre for use in the Cross-country World Cup. The day lodge provides visitors with a cafeteria, meeting rooms, lockers, showers, equipment rentals, and other essentials. There’s even an 18-hole disc golf course.

During summer months the centre is home to numerous national and
international mountain biking and trail running events, to include Rundle’s Revenge. With over 100km of mountain biking and hiking trails, the park is sure to challenge even the toughest athletes.
