Learn and Master turns out some of the best guitar courses available online and the Learn and Master Blues Guitar Spotlight course is no different.

This course, taught by award winning instructor Steve Krenz, covers everything you need to get started playing the blues even if you’re a beginner.

NOTE: You should know your basic chords and have a bit of musical understanding for this course as it doesn’t cover the extreme basics.

This course includes 6 lesson dvds chalked full of instruction and workshop material, one Jam Along CD for use when practicing and another DVD that includes interviews and Jam Along videos. There’s also a lesson book included with the course in PDF form. You can save and print the workbook all at once or just the pages you need.

The video quality of this course is top notch, as it is with all Legacy Learning Products, and the Jam Along tracks are out standing click here to take a listen. These jam tracks have been professionaly recorded in studio, there’s no drum machines or electronic sounding instruments here.

Like all of the Learn & Master courses purchase of the Blues Spotlight course gives you unlimited access to the support website where Steve Krenz, the instructor, and other students hang out. Here you can ask questions, converse with other students and receive feedback and support if you’re having trouble.

This course is the best blues guitar lessons dvd I’ve seen and the only reason it’s not our #1 choice over all is becasue it doesn’t offer quite the variety of instruction as online lessons like JamPlay.

#3 Blues Guitar Blueprint Review

Blues Guitar Bluesprint
Publisher: Rail Road Media
Course Website: www.BluesGuitarBluePrint.com
Best Price: $67
Best For: Beginner and Intermediate guitarists

This is the newest blues guitar course I’ve reviewed and I was pleasently surprised when I looked at it. The Blues Guitar Blue Print is produced by Rail Road Media, an up and coming name in the video instruction business and taught by guitarist Nate Savage who first made a name for himself with his Beginner Guitar System course.

The course comes with 2 DVDs of lesson content and Jam videos, 4 Jam Along CDs with tracks in 7 different keys for practicing and a spiral bound workbook.

The course content is solid. Nate covers the basics of 12 bar blues, chord progressions, blues chords and scales effectively. There are great on screen graphics and split screen video effects that make understanding each new concept as easy as possible.

I liked how the on-screen graphics were the same as those in the lesson book. This made it easy to connect the dots when learning a new technique, especially when learning about scales and blue notes.

The Jam Along audio and video tracks are great. The course provides four styles of practice tracks: 6/8 blues, minor blues, jazzy blues, and Chicago blues. This gives you a solid over view of the different style of blues guitar you can play.

I would suggest that you have some basic guitar knowledge about chords before you venture into this course, although I would still say the Blues Guitar Blue Print is ideal for both beginner and intermediate guitarists.

Guitar Tricks is another online guitar lesson website like JamPlay. They’ve been providing guitar lesson content on the Internet since 1997 and have been going strong ever since.

They have over 3000 lessons live online and are growing their catalog every month, of those 3000 a good chunk of these lessons focus specifically on the blues. If you look at Guitar Tricks teaching process you can see that Blues is one of three intermediate sections along with Rock and Country.

6/8 blues, minor blues, jazzy blues, and Chicago bluesGuitar Tricks covers everything you need to know to become a great blues guitarst in their Level 1 and Level 2 course from the 12 bar blues basics and blues chords to playing in the styles of some of the greats like Albert and BB King.

They have an excellent introduction video you can watch for their Blues Style Level 1 course here.

The video quality is good, how ever not HD like some of the other courses out there. Also I feel that JamPlay.com’s videos are better produced with multiple camera angles and on-screen graphics to help assit the learning process. These are two things I have not seen in any Guitar Tricks lesson videos.

Guitar Tricks has the option of signgin up for a free account where you can watch 24 free lessons from their paid membership. Of those 24, 4 of them are blues lessons. So if you’re on the fence about joining sign-up for a free account and watch a couple of the sample blues lessons available.
