IMPORTANT NOTE:  At the 2011 and 2012 NHSRA Mid-Winter Meeting, the Board of Directors adopted some additional rule changes that are NOT reflected in the above rulebook.  They will not be included until the new rulebook is printed in the Fall of 2012.  However, the new rules are indeed in effect for the NJHFR and NHSFR.  Be sure to refer to your state / provincial secretary for information on rules enforced at your local Finals rodeo.  Click the links below to view the additional rules and please make the appropriate changes to your rulebook.

Important Rule Clarification On Allowed Bareback Riding Gloves

At the NHSRA’s annual Mid-Winter Meeting in Denver this past January, the Board of Directors officially adopted a clarification to the rule regarding allowed bareback riding gloves.  Below is the clarification on what is considered to be a “legal glove:”


Re: rule clarification for the bareback glove - Page 60 #10, 11, 12.
ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE GLOVE, THERE ARE TO BE NO HORIZONTAL CUTS FROM THE SECOND KNUCKLE BACK.  ON THE INSIDE (PALM SIDE), ONLY VERTICAL CUTS OR SLITS ARE ALLOWED ON FINGERS ONLY.

Please note that this new rule adjustment replaces the current provision that is listed in the official rulebook.  It has also been designated as a “Ground Rule” and will be enforced at the National High School Finals Rodeo this July in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
