National Lawyers Guild Condemns Preemptive Police Raids & Unlawful Searches on the Streets Early morning house raid in Bridgeport and harassment of activists indicates intolerance of free speech rights

The National Lawyers Guild (NLG) condemns a preemptive police raid that took place at approximately 11:30pm Wednesday in the Bridgeport neighborhood, and instances of harassment on the street, in which Chicago police are unlawfully detaining, searching, and questioning NATO protesters. The Bridgeport raid was apparently conducted by the Organized Crime Division of the Chicago Police Department and resulted in as many as 8 arrests. Read More...

Food Not NATO is in need of kitchen volunteers! Starting today, and everyday through May 22nd, the Seeds of Peace kitchen will be in need of a number of volunteers to staff the kitchen that will be supplying food support for actions throughout the week, including the National Nurses Union march on Friday and the CANG8 march on Sunday, at both of which we will be aiming to operate at full capacity and feed thousands of marchers. The Wellington Avenue United Church of Christ (615 W. Wellington has agreed to provide their basement space as the main convergence center for the upcoming week of actions. This will be a place to make demo-related artwork, hold large indoor meetings, act as a welcoming center (to learn about when/where events), and the place where breakfast and dinner will be provided each day. A series of legal, medic, direct action, facilitation, affinity group, and other trainings will be held here. Larger meetings like action spokes, logistical meetings, open space meetings, and open discussions will also be held here.
