Teaching Literacy via the Paideia Seminar
We believe that literacy is a symbiotic collection of skillsreading, writing, speaking, listening, and thinkingnot just the simple ability to read or write. We further believe that literacy should be continuously developed over the course of ones entire life.
This program is designed for teachers from all disciplines who want to coach their students literacy skills, both in general and in the specific context of a discipline. Although seminar experience is preferred, it is not required. You will participate in a model seminar cycle, featuring pre-seminar reading strategies and post-seminar writing strategies. You will also begin planning literacy seminars tailored to your classroom.
The goal is to prepare you to coach a range of literacy skills in your classroom whether you teach language arts or not. Ultimately, the goal is to prepare your students to grow more fluent over the course of their lives as they continue to practice reading, writing, speaking, listening, and thinking.

Registration
The cost for this institute is $500 per participant for registrations received by May 1, 2007 or $600 for registrations received after that date. This cost includes breakfast, lunch, and all materials for two days. Please register by May 1, 2007

Registration forms can be faxed to 919-962-3139. We accept purchase orders and checks, but not credit cards. A full refund will be issued upon written request received by NPC 15 days prior to the session and one-half refund fewer than 7 days prior to the session. This event will be held if 15 people register by 5/1/07. Confirmation of your registration will be made at that time, allowing you the opportunity to then make travel and accommodation arrangements.
