Brush Collection

A quick overview of brush schedules & regulations.

Schedule:

Brush pickup in Pontiac is divided into routes. Your brush will typically be picked up within one week after it is placed on the curb.

 A Few Guidelines....

  • Brush should be placed at the curb line, not in the street. Material placed in the roadway can cause storm drain blockage and lead to street flooding during heavy rain.
  • Limbs should be no longer than six feet in length.
  • Large piles are picked up once per week using an end loader.
  • The Street Department will no longer accept yard waste (other than grass) that is in plastic bags. Please use a garbage can, cardboard box, or tall paper bags (available at local retailers) for clippings, etc. These containers must not exceed 35 pounds in total weight.
  • Grass clippings will only be picked up if placed in plastic bags with an orange sticker (available at City Hall for $1) attached to it. Bags should not exceed 35 pounds in total weight. Grass placed in garbage cans, paper bags, boxes, or loose on the curb will not be picked up.
  • If residents wish to discard their own grass, they may do so at the City Garage during regular operational hours. Please empty the grass from the bags and dispose of them in the dumpster provided.

FREE MULCH!

The Street Department has a large stockpile of mulch available to the public free of charge. Please check in at the office to be directed to the pile. Loading is available for owners of pick-up trucks, but only when staff is available to do so.  Directions and hours are available on the department's home page.
