A Day Out in Down

Posted by jane  spacer  No comments

Northern Ireland is the perfect place for a Great Day Out. This summer why not take a family day out to the beautiful County Down – it’s full of history, heritage, stunning scenery & plenty of fun activities for all the family. The ni2012 team recently took a wee trip around Down – here’s some inspiration for a great day out!

The Great Outdoors

Home to Lady Dufferin, Clandeboye Country Estate located in Bangor is a visitors paradise with stunning gardens, courtyard & outdoor activities. A great way to get the full experience of the Clandeboye Estate is by taking the garden or history tour. Enjoy the beautiful walled gardens and learn about the amazing family history of the estate. The intimate walled gardens adjoin the courtyard and house & include a Bee garden and Conservatory garden. Further afield are the woodland gardens which display a large collection of Rhododendrons and other exotic species suited to the unique mild climate of this part of County Down. The estate itself also features a wonderful art gallery, quaint church & a golf course.

The launch of Festival of Fools last Thursday (Photo shared from Festival of Fools facebook page)

There was a decidedly circus-like and carnival atmosphere on the streets of Belfast City Centre as the annual Festival of Fools returned, bringing with it some of the best international street performers and cultural artists. Huge crowds turned out on the opening evening for the launch event Journey to the Land of Giants and over the course of the 4-days, there was a chorus of laughter and gasps of amazement in various nooks and crannies throughout Belfast, both on and off the beaten track.

Bringing Myth and Legend to life…

Now I must begin by being perfectly honest, I have to admit that prior to last Friday my knowledge of the history and beauty spots of South Armagh was practically non-existent. I had heard of  the famous Slieve Gullion, but not the Ring of Gullion tour which gives visitors the chance to delve back in-time to an Ireland ruled by Kings, Chieftains, and O’Neills…
