Honestly, we did not expect Manchester City to falter at Etihad Stadium last night and they certainly did not, although they needed some miraculous comeback with two goals scored in the last three minutes. Nonetheless, we had our moments and for almost 30 minutes, we thought that we will be crowned champion again for the 20th time, a new League record. And when Mr Howard Webb blown the final whistle at the Stadium of Light, all the travelling away fans were singing with joy thinking that we have done enough but it was not to be. 30 seconds later, Sergio Aguero, son-in-law of the great Diego Maradona struck the goal that broke our heart. “Squeaky-Bum Time” – the phrase first coined by Manchester United’s manager Sir Alex Ferguson and is defined as “the tense final stages of a league competition, especially from the point of view of the leaders“. Looks like its squeaky-bum time again this season too as both Manchester teams that are fighting for this year’s title are struggling to get their act together with only a few remaining matches to go. City dropped two vital points at the Britannia stadium and manager Roberto Mancini refused to shake hands with Stoke’s boss Tony Pulis accusing them of being too aggressive toward his players. United on the hand managed to get away with three points albeit a lucky one when referee failed to award Fulham a late penalty after Michael Carrick tripped Danny Murphy in United’s penalty box. Sir Alex was certainly not impressed with his team and made his feelings known to his players when he told the media that his team was lucky and Fulham should be given the penalty. (more…)
