Now Available: FT Series Proportional Directional Valves from Sun Hydraulics

spacer

FTDC-XYN

Sun Hydraulic’s FC Series FTDC-XYN 4-way, 3-position, directional-control valve is a great way to gain the accuracy needed in a hydraulic system.

Technical Features

    • -Nominal operating pressures for port 1 and port 6 should not exceed 500 psi (35 bar).
-Pressure at ports 1 and 6 directly oppose each other.
-These valves may be pressure compensated by an external, modulating, logic element. Use LR_C-XHN for a bypass circuit or LP_CXHN for a restrictive circuit. Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
-The valve provides a degree of self-compensation and may be used as a flow control. To increase the accuracy of flow control, an external, modulating, logic element can be used to maintain a constant flow over a wider range of flows and pressures.

Human Centered Design creates innovation at Price.

Innovation isn’t easy, which is why many great products never make it past the prototype phase. $14 billion of consumer products are returned to stores each year. 95% of those items are not returned due to defects, but poor design of the product itself.*

Human Centered Design open house.

Price Engineering has employed Human Centered Design (HCD) principles since 2009 in order to enhance efficiency and increase the intuitive nature of oftentimes complex applications and machines developed through the company. Terry Glidden, Vice President of Price’s Mobile Division, perceives one the benefits of HCD to be that it “…enables the design team to zero in on what is truly important to the [customer].”

Tom Price, President of Price Engineering and Paul Decker formed a partnership to launch the Maverick Innovation Lab - a local company utilizing HCD principles in order to create growth and innovation in companies around the Greater Milwaukee area. Maverick hosted a seminar for Price employees, as well as a customer open house in February 2012. Attendees participated in several HCD exercises, in addition to a short lecture on the principles and benefits of HCD.

“My exposure to these HCD tools has changed my perspective on the methodology being used to design these systems [...] because of HCD, I now believe that the most successful designs will be approached from the top-down, instead of using the traditional bottom-up approach.” – Jason Biwer, Business Development Engineer.

View an excerpt below of a mock “Think-Aloud Testing” exercise. This exercise is frequently used within Price Engineering for modifying and improving complex system interfaces.

The LakeView Legends aka. Robot Mafia (#1652) at regionals

On March 23rd and 24th, 2012, nearly 50 teams from around the Midwest came together in Milwaukee’s U.S. Cellular Arena to compete in the FIRST Robotics Regional Competition. Its mission is “to transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders,” says founder Dean Kamen.

Registered teams around the country sign up to build their robot according to specific technical guidelines that have been predetermined by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). Once the robot is complete, teams turn them over to FIRST officials and are scheduled for a variety of local and regional competitions, which all lead up to the National Competition. Throughout all levels of competition, participants have the opportunity to win nearly $14.8 million in college scholarships.

Price sponsored the LakeView Legends, otherwise known as the “Robot Mafia” (#1652) for the 2012 competition. Their hard work and knowledge were certainly apparent as they progressed throughout the regional competition.

Price employees also acted as mentors for the Arrowhead Robotics team the “Cyberhawks” (#706) and for the Wave Robotics team (#2826). Both teams won awards and will now advance on to the National Competition in April of this year

Profile Magazine also feature Tom Price Jr. and Price Engineering’s involvment with FIRST in a January/February 2011 edition (pages 80-81). Click HERE to read about the featured article>>

All FIRST events and competitions are free and open to the public. The 2012 Championship will be held in St. Louis, Missouri from April 25th to 28th.
