A Course for Pregnancy Resource Medical Clinics —
Nurses, Medical Personnel and Executive Directors

Purpose of Course

The course is designed to equip the leadership and staff of pregnancy resource medical clinics to achieve excellence in the provision of ultrasound services to clients.

Course Description

The course is three days with two tracks, medical and management, to address both medical and administrative concerns. Day one, both tracks meet together. Days two and three, the focus is on workshops designed specifically for each track.

Directors Track:

Clinical Directors, Executive Directors, Board Members and CEOs

Workshops include: fundraising ideas, client marketing, recruitment and supervision of medical teams, clinical infrastructures, corporate strategies, policies and procedures, and risk management issues. Click here to register.

Nurse Track:

RNs, PA-Cs, Medical Directors, Midwives and Nurse Practitioners

Workshops include: legal guidelines, obstetrical fundamentals, nursing accountability, ultrasound physics, ultrasound instrumentation, documenting fetal cardiac activity and documenting fetal biometry. And best of all, there is hands-on, live OB scanning in different stages of pregnancy. Click here to register.

Medical Course Content

This course follows the guidelines from the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) for training in limited obstetrical ultrasound. NIFLA is an approved continuing education provider (California Board of Registered Nursing provider #14563). This three day course is approved for 18.4 contact hours and is transferable to other states.

The NIFLA Institute in Limited Obstetrical Ultrasound Course is approved to offer up to 16 CMEs for any RDMS in attendance.

NOTE: This three-day course is the first step of training for nurses to become competent in providing limited ultrasound at Pregnancy Resource Medical Clinics. It consists of two days didactic training and one day of live ultrasound scanning. The standards of medical practice require that to become competent in providing this service a nurse must have, in addition to the instruction at this course, 50-75 supervised scans overseen by an RDMS and the medical director for the Pregnancy Resource Medical Clinic.

If your center has arranged for additional on-site scanning training through Sound View Imaging your nurses may be eligible for a two-day training (Thursday-Friday) at a reduced cost. This two day course is approved for 16.4 contact hours. Registration online is NOT AVAILABLE for this special two-day training. Note: This course is the beginning of training for nurses to gain competency in performing limited obstetrical ultrasound scans. NIFLA recommends that after this training each nurse should perform an additional 50-75 supervised scans. Information on on-site and other training opportunities is presented at each course.
