Be you programmer, software engineer, computer scientist, code monkey, computer nerd, pixel pusher, civic hacker, data addict, web dev, or WordPress guru. We want you to bring your skills to our 24 hour hackathon on Oct 15 & 16. We'll be camping out at Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. And it'll be even more fun with a team! Get your friends or coworkers to come along. Still not sure?
The data is all around us. It's been called the "invisible architecture" of our world and we're helping to make more of Reno's data available, clean and accessible. Hack4Reno's Hackathon will demonstrate to the local government and it's citizens what can be accomplished when the data is open. Come hack with us.
What do we mean good. Anything that makes Reno better. An app that helps people locate emergency services is, obviously, a good thing. What about a site with detailed information on all the historical buildings in Reno? Or, an app so people can find the closest food truck when they're out on the town. All of these things benefit the area or the people in it. We like that. Let's build something together.
Maybe Civic Hacking isn't your thing. Maybe you just like a good, old-fashioned competition. Maybe, just maybe, you want to show how good you are. Our supporters want to see what you can do and they've provided prizes for the best applications to come out of this craziness. We'll have prizes for different categories and some fun stuff we can't mention yet. All you have to do is register and particpate.

That’s right. We all made it out alive. The Hack4Reno Hackathon was an amazing success. I don’t think there was a single person that left that event unchanged – I know I went back to work thinking “Hrm, I wonder what I could hack together in a weekend?” and I immediately made huge changes to long-stagnant code in the spirit of “clever playfulness”.
Now that we’ve all (mostly) recovered from a crazy couple of months we’re putting together the final results as well as some post-hackathon events/announcements.
Stay tuned hackers!
