spacer Miss Me When I’m Gone is the story of Cyrus Harper, a failed folksinger trying to salvage his talents and flee his past, and Margaret Bowman, a murderess set on kidnapping her daughter.  Caught up in a musical and haunted world, these characters struggle to lose their burdens and find each other, but they are stymied by an array of threatening and sometimes comical outcasts: hippies building a house out of pop bottles; crystal-meth tweakers with business aspirations; militiamen reluctant to fire their weapons; and hog-eyed men, spirits sprung from the lyrics of an Ozark dance tune.

Tormented for almost fifteen years by the disappearance of his sister, Cyrus Harper returns home from California to Apogee, Missouri, to face the death of his mother.  Once he settles in, he finds himself searching for his sister and resisting his brother’s efforts to sell the family land.  At the same time, Margaret Bowman makes a quest of her own, struggling to recover her child and to take revenge on anyone who gets in her way.  Their paths cross after Cyrus takes a gig singing in a strip club, and when Margaret dispatches four small-town high school football players.  Haunted by porcine spirits, and antagonized by the makeshift militia, Margaret and Cyrus wend their way over, and into, the cave-riddled hills of the Ozarks, finding peace only when they turn to face the past.
