If you are curious about specific popular diet plans/books found in the media, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Formerly the American Dietetic Association) provides peer reviewed analysis of these on their Consumer Diet and Lifestyle Book Reviews page.  However, the best “diet” is no diet at all.  Think about the long-term goal and choose to Go Veg!
