Yard Sale Finds

spacer May 21st, 2012 | spacer Author: melissa

I have been running like crazy all day!  You ever had one of those days?  Actually, one of those weeks?

The day started with Daisy getting new braces.  (I remember how they hurt!)

I had lunch with Anna Belle and Lila Mae.  (I have lunch with them every Monday – and this being the last Monday before the summer, I hated to miss.)

Daisy had an award ceremony at school tonight.  (Can I brag here?  She won the “Tiger” Award!  It is an award that is voted on by all of the 6th grade teachers to give to one student.  A sweet ending to a rough day for her!)

I am busy getting ready for a baby shower at my house on Tuesday!  I am having about 30 people for dinner.  I am thrilled to be able to do it.  The shower is a for a girl who came through our youth group and has been special to us for many years.

I will have plenty of pictures of the shower.  It is turning out pretty cute.

So, my post today is short and sweet.

I had a great weekend of yard sale-ing!  Only my Lila Mae went with me this weekend.  The others were wanting to sleep in.  (Lila Mae NEVER wants to sleep in!)

Here are a few of our finds.

Old Rake Plant Holder

spacer May 20th, 2012 | spacer Author: melissa

I was in Samantha James this weekend.  One of my favorite stores in Murfreesboro!  You can read more about it here

They had just gotten in the cutest little plant holders.  They were shaped like an old rake, old shovel, and old pitch fork.  I knew that was going to be my next purchase.

Until, I was at a yard sale this weekend and found an old rake.

Here is what I came up with.

Linen Ruffled Table Topper

spacer May 17th, 2012 | spacer Author: melissa

Just a quick project for today.

I recently purchased an amazing drop leaf table at a yard sale.  You can see it here.

The purchase of that table, caused me to rearrange many of my other side tables.   I have been using this skirted table for years. (In another spot in the family room.)  I bought the cloth for it about 10 years ago at Bombay Company (whatever happened to that store?)  I still love the color, but decided it was time to give it a topper.  Seeing as how I have a blog now, I am motivated to go ahead and make this little topper.

This project was inspired by a Christmas tree skirt that Miss Mustard Seed (one of my all time favorite blogs!) made.  You can see how she made that here.  It was the inspiration for this little table topper.

Outdoor Wicker Recliner!

spacer May 16th, 2012 | spacer Author: melissa

Here is the yard sale find that I have been hinting about.

A Lazy Boy outdoor wicker recliner for $15!

I thought it was going to go by my playhouse, but it found its home on my patio.

Here is the finished product:

Slipcovered Pillow and Playhouse

spacer May 15th, 2012 | spacer Author: melissa

I continue to work on the playhouse.  She has come a long way!  She has gotten new paint, banners, front door bucket, lanterns with burlap bows, door mat, watering can, and a “relax” sign and shutters.  Wow!  I am working on the inside also.  I will reveal that in the next couple of weeks.

I had big plans for what to do in front of the “relax” sign.  It involved a great yard sale find.  But, it did not work there!!!  Oh well, I added a new wicker rocker to the front porch which caused this great bench to longer have a home.  My dad made this bench for me last year.  (He is an amazingly talented wood-worker!)

And, the great yard sale find will have to wait.  I think I have found the perfect home for it, but it still needs a little work.

The front of the playhouse is finished and now the side is also done.

Here is the finished product.

Drop Leaf Table

spacer May 14th, 2012 | spacer Author: melissa

I LOVE yard sale season!!!

This weekend, my oldest, Daisy and youngest, Lila Mae (the middle, Anna Belle is still not into yard sales) set out early Saturday morning.

Our first stop was a moving sale.  The older couple was downsizing.  So. . . they were needing to get rid of a little furniture.  Including, this beautiful drop leaf table.  The lady selling it said that it was at least 100 years old because she knew that it had been a gift to her husbands grandmother!!!  I could not believe that they were getting rid of it!  And, for $75?  I just about did a happy dance right there in their driveway.  It did not need to have anything done to it.  It wasn’t even dusty!

We just loaded it up, took it home and rearranged a little furniture.  (Which is one of my all time favorite things to do!)

Here is its new home.

Painted Wicker Rocker

spacer May 13th, 2012 | spacer Author: melissa

I am continuing to work on my front porch.

I still have the rocking chair that went in our first nursery for Daisy.  We bought it at the Pottery Barn Outlet.  It was a beautiful pale shade of blue with a whitewash finish over that.  I covered the cushions with an old quilt.  It was a beautiful chair in a beautiful nursery.

With the birth of our next child, Anna Belle, we decided that we wanted a more comfortable rocker. (I actually did not let David sit in a glider when we first started looking for rocking chairs for Daisy.  I could not stand the way they looked, and I wanted pretty.  I knew that he would be the practical one and want the comfort.  With the second child, I was all about comfort and less about look!  Reality had set in!!!)  So, we got a glider.  Not near as pretty, but much more comfortable!

Not being one to get rid of furniture, I painted it black and put it in our family room.

Now, it is time for it to make its way to the front porch.  Oh, how I wish that it was still the lovely pale blue!

Since it was not, I got out my paint and this is what I came up with.

New Purse for Me!

spacer May 10th, 2012 | spacer Author: melissa

I never buy purses for myself!  I don’t like to spend my money like that.  I would much rather have that money for a home or backyard project!

But, the straps on my old purse were wearing thin.  Likely to give away any day!  And, if my purse were to fall to the ground and have all of the contents spill out,  it would take hours to get it all back in. . . maybe not hours, but a long time!

I found a great buy on a very simple purse the other day at American Eagle.  It was on sale with an additional 30% off.  It was cheap enough that I could justify buying it.  It had feathers and beads hanging from it that were not my style.

Here is what I came up with:

Front Porch Refresh

spacer May 9th, 2012 | spacer Author: melissa

I think that I must have adult ADD.  I dropped the kids off at school and headed back to the house. I was going to work on a new treasure for the backyard.  On the way in I thought to myself, “I need to get this front porch ready for the summer.”  I started working on it and before I knew it I was knee deep in projects for the front porch.  My backyard project will have to wait for another day!

Here is what I ended up doing today.

Relax!

spacer May 8th, 2012 | spacer Author: melissa

I have an amazing husband!  On Friday, he called to let me know that he had seen a church yard sale on the way to work and wanted to know if I wanted to run over there with him?!  My husband loves a yard sale. . . how lucky am I?!

Needless to say, I found several good things and one amazing find!  I will be sharing that with you after it gets its “remake.”  But, I am needing to create a space for it.

So, today I worked on the side of the playhouse where this great find will find its home.

The word that this great find makes me think is. . . RELAX!
