> Learn MoreSince our early beginnings, Rumpke has provided one of society's essential services – trash collection and disposal. It was the early 1930s, when brothers William and Bernard Rumpke began collecting trash to feed to their hogs. As their business evolved, the Rumpke’s adapted, and traded in their hog farm for a landfill. Today, we are pleased to offer a total waste solution, including trash and recycling collection and disposal– as well as a variety of sustainability services – to residents, businesses and municipalities throughout Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia.

What can I recycle?
Lots of stuff! Did you know that more than 60 percent of your trash can be recycled? Rumpke accepts a great deal of common household items in its curbside and drop box recycling programs, including: plastic bottles, glass bottles and jars, aluminum and steel cans, cardboard, paperboard and paper. Our acceptable item list varies slightly by region, so be sure to visit RumpkeRecycling.com to learn what can be recycled in your area.
Why can’t I recycle everything?
The truth is, anything can be recycled IF there is someone willing to turn the item into something new. While there are companies actively converting plastic, aluminum and paper into new and useful products, their need for the material depends largely on the demand for their products. A lack of demand for their products limits the type of materials that are acceptable in recycling programs, which in turn limits the types of items residents can recycle. At Rumpke, we know that providing residents with greater recycling options is key to conserving our natural resources and landfill space for the future. We will continue working to identify markets for additional materials. Please review the list of acceptable material here and concentrate on maximizing the amount of these items your family puts in your recycling bin or cart each week.
Do you really recycle?
Yes! At Rumpke we are committed to reducing the amount of waste entering our landfills through increased recycling efforts. Rumpke has invested millions of dollars into our recycling operations. But for us to be able to recycle materials, we need our customers to separate recyclable material from their trash.
