Lunar Nightclub Artwork

  • Lunar also makes an impact with its innovative integration of art into the Cincinnati entertainment scene.  Lunar owners selected local artist Andrew VanSickle to create eight new works of art flush with colors and effects with each work of painting reacting to light.  VanSickle created the “Lunar Ink Blots” (2000 Light Years Away), a series of (5) 32″ canvas paintings which feature Rorschach ink blots and Outer Space graphics from his art mentor, Rev. Howard Finster. The canvases react to timed UV Black Light. They appear to look like Ink Blot tests then ignite graphically when the UV lights above the Lunar dance floor switch on for a moment – a great “create” effect that Lunar owners desired when discussing the project. Each painting is positioned directly above the five VIP table areas in front of the dance area. Lunar’s VIP rooms feature VanSickle new “Iron-Man 1963″ portraits, flush with pop colors and metallic paints.
  • Prior to opening, Lunar’s owners enlisted three local artists (Bromwell’s resident artist and Gallery Director, Evan Hildebrandt and the local collaborative artist team Rowland Augur: Collin Rowland, Daniel Augur) to design artwork to be displayed and naturally enhance the design of the space. These original pieces include Hildebrandt’s “Point of View #1” moon in Launch (the lower level bar of Lunar), the famous illuminated “Point of View #11” moon in the stairwell connecting Launch and Lunar and Rowland Augur’s “A Royal Paradigm” inside Lunar.
