Thank you for visiting Spinach and Yoga – a go-to resource for all things healthy, tasty, and natural!
My name is Nadya and I like to think of myself as a ‘modern ayurveda girl’ who teaches yoga for a living and occasionally writes thoughtful articles for Mind Body Green, Modern Hippie Magazine, CrazySexyLife and YogaCityNYC.
This blog is mostly about yoga, health, Ayurveda, travel and food. If you have ever wondered how you can stay healthy, peaceful, and fit in a huge modern city (I wonder every single day), you might find some interesting ideas on this blog.
Ayurveda is an ancient science of health and wellness, which worked wonders for me when I had to deal with digestion issues and PCOS. For the last 2 years I used time-proven ayurvedic techniques to change my lifestyle and diet to live a vibrant healthy life in a huge modern city. Here I write about my health findings, favorite recipes, yummy snacks, and power foods and herbs, yoga and mindfulness. All the Ayurvedic recipes on this blog are based on the foods that you can buy at a local supermarket so it is easy to try make them anytime you want a stomach-friendly dish. Healthy digestion, natural skin care and detox are among my favorite topics. Lately I am also getting very interested in natural healing methods, slowing down in a fast-paced city, and anti-inflammatory mindful eating.
If you have a question about any of these topics, leave a comment below and I will do my best to provide you with a thoughtful well-researched answer!
Before starting my wellness journey and this blog, I worked at AIG and got a Masters degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from New York University.
Recently I finished Wellness Coaching certification through Wellcoaches and actively expanding my work from yoga and writing to offer more wellness-oriented workshops similar to Kitchen Evolution and one-on-one coaching sessions. You can read more about my work here.
Enjoy!

Hi Nadya, I love your blog! How did you get started studying Ayurveda? Can you recommend a few books to me? I’m eager to learn and want to know where to start!
Hi CaraBehan (sorry, I am not sure what your actual name is…), thanks for the kind words about my blog! Yours is very informational and interesting, too!
Ayurveda is different from Paleo diet since it recommends every individual a slightly different diet based on their constitution and current imbalance. You can start by reading Prakriti by Dr Robert Svoboda or any book by Vassant Lad. They are both wonderful teachers and I studied with Dr Lad in NYC. Let me know how it goes!

Dear Nadya,
You’re blog is amazing.. so far I have found plenty of interesting info and tips … have already started implementing them to my daily rutines. But I have one very important remark. Just like you I have PCOS and it’s very fresh thing – I have foound out about it 3 months ago. I realize that it’s begining of my trip to get rid of this disease…there are days I don’t have strenght anymore … If you were going through the same long way maybe it’s also worth to share your experience with girls/women, as I assume there are great number of wonderful women who have to deal with the awful PCOS on daily basis…Maybe it would be good to set PCOS as a “Category” and mark all posts which contain even small amount of info regarding it … Anyways thank you once again for very very helpul healthy full of good vibs blog!

Hello Nadya, when you said PSOS did you mean PCOS? I think I may be having trouble with this. No period for almost two years now, low BMI. Avid health food lover and yoga practitioner, and it doesnt make sense to me, I’m looking for answers. Can you tell me more about your story?
Hi AJM, thanks for noticing the mistake. Just corrected it. We can talk over the phone and skype. I had exactly the same thing. No periods for close to 2 years with low body fat %, healthy food, workouts, and yoga. email me to nadyaand 2 gmail . com
