Not One of Us

“I definitely recommend Not One of Us to readers attracted to character-oriented dark fantasy... plenty of disquieting reflection. Fine work.” (Rich Horton)

“The staying power of Not One of Us is a testament to its quality.” (The Fix)

Not One of Us ...is a reliable source for interesting dark prose and poetry.” (Ellen Datlow, Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror)

Not One of Us is a hardcopy zine about people (or things) out of place in their surroundings, outsiders, social misfits, aliens in the sf sense—anyone excluded from society for whatever the reason. We want to explore “otherness” from every possible angle.

We’ll use this website to announce new issues as they come out, present examples of stories and poems that have appeared in past issues, and make available longer versions of interviews published in Not One of Us. We’ll also share some of our own sometimes serious, sometimes goofy perspectives, including occasional lists of things appropriate to our theme. Plus we’ll have links to market listings, websites of frequent contributors and places where they have been published, and some of our favorite bands.

Here’s the table of contents of our current issue, Not One of Us #46. Take a look, too, at a list of the more than 120 stories and poems from the pages of Not One of Us that have been reprinted or honorably mentioned in best-of collections.

Here’s the table of contents of The Best of No One of Us, a collection of fifteen stories representing some of the very best fiction published during our first twenty years.

Not One of Us is [a] stalwart of the zine scene.” (Kelly Link and Gavin Grant, Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror)

HE Fassl provided the artwork on this home page. Called “You’re Not from Around Here, Are You?,” it graced the cover of Not One of Us #29.

ANNOUNCING THE BEST OF NOT ONE OF US

Here are the children of men and angels, and all the ways a world can end; an owl-man in the spring of stupidity, and a murderess mourning her victim’s death as it never really happened; an outcast who finds her long-sought ideal too perfect, and anorexic ghosts of a man’s desire; a dead girl with her disturbing doll, and matters of family tangled up in blue. For twenty years Not One of Us has explored “otherness” from every fictional angle. Collected here are fifteen stories that represent some of the very best fiction published in its pages.
