Longing For Home Bed and Breakfast hosts Their first W.C. Handy Festival Event to Benefit The Wounded Warrior Project

spacer Longing For Home Bed and Breakfast in conjunction with the Rogersville Area Chamber of Commerce and Local Businesses and Civic Organizations announces it’s “2012 Dinner On The Grounds” Blues & Jazz Concert.  Proceeds from this 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM, July 24, 2012 event will benefit The Wounded Warrior Project.

Come be a part of this unique event and taste-test homemade ice cream, take home great homemade cakes and take part in the auction of value packed gift baskets while enjoying  Blues & Jazz music provided by the “Little Big Band” directed by Dr. Edd Jones, Chair of the University of North Alabama (UNA) Music Department.

Cafe' Savanna
To make this truly a “Dinner On The Grounds,” great box dinners prepared especially for this event will be sold by Rogersville’s own Café’ Savanna listed in “100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die” for the chicken salad and homemade bread, and Whitt’s Barbeque.

During the concert you can buy tickets to taste test each of the competing homemade ice cream entries and then cast your vote for the best in our first ever Homemade Ice Cream “Freeze Off.” Organized and run by the Rogersville Civitan Club, proceeds from both “Freeze Off” $3.00 entry fees and $1.00 Taste Ticket sales will go to the Wounded Warrior Project.  If you have an “out of this world” ice cream recipe you can register for the “Freeze Off” at the Rogersville Chamber of Commerce Office (256) 247-9449.  “Taste Tickets” will be sold during event.  Remember, your votes will determine the winner.

Great Gathering at a Recent Event
Also during this fun packed event an old fashioned “Cake Walk” will be run by the Rogersville Kiwanis Club.  Featuring the best homemade cakes in this part of the world, lucky winners are sure to enjoy the spoils of victory for days!  This is a great chance for a younger generation to experience something that was common to us older folks.  As with all the activities held during the event, on site sales of $1.00 per “Walking Permit” will go to benefit The Wounded Warrior Project.

This is proving to be a real community effort!  In addition to the activities run by Rogersville’s local service clubs, local Rogersville merchants are chiming in as well.  Many of our merchants are now preparing value packed picnic baskets that will be auctioned to the highest bidder periodically during the Dinner on the Grounds Concert.   A hand made queen size quilt is being created and donated to the auction by the East Lauderdale Quilters Guild.  Again proceeds from these auctions will go to benefit The Wounded Warrior Project.
