Outdoor Wicker Recliner!

Here is the yard sale find that I have been hinting about.

A Lazy Boy outdoor wicker recliner for $15!

I thought it was going to go by my playhouse, but it found its home on my patio.

Here is the finished product:

Here is where I started:

Everything about the chair was in great condition, but the cushions were very faded.

Something had to be done about the cushions.  I thought about recovering them, but the shape of the top cushion was going to be tricky.  I thought about having it professionally recovered.  But, I knew that would be pricey.

Then, I remember seeing about spray painting fabric.  I decided that this was the perfect project to try it on.  Worst case scenario is that I would have to recover them if it did not work.

Here is what I did.  I started with a primer.  I do not know if this was necessary, but I thought for $4, it could not hurt.  Notice that the front of this can says for metal – wood – wicker – more.  If you read the back of the can, it actually says fabric!

Here is where you can learn from my mistake.  I used this paint next.  After using a whole can on 1 cushion, I could hardly tell that I had painted it.  I was thinking that this was going to be a failure and was already thinking about how I would recover these cushions.

I do not know if the color was too light or if the paint was just not a good quality for fabric.  I went to the hardware store one more time and brought this home  to try.

This paint was a little more expensive (which is why I did not buy it in the first place.)  But, it was 100% better than the other.  I could tell immediately that this was the answer (happy dance time!)  I was not going to have to recover this monster of a cushion!  I thought that the fabric would be very stiff when it dried.  But, it really is not bad.  I think that it is going to “break in” nicely and be a very comfortable chair.  The perfect place for me to sit and read and have my morning coffee.  (Now, I just need to find a small table to put beside it – hopefully another yard sale find! – My new neighbor is having a yard sale this morning.  I have to get over there!)

Here are more pictures of the final product.  I did not make the pillow. I could not resist the $7 outdoor fabric pillow at Old Time Pottery!  I love the fresh green!

I also planted up a couple more boxwoods in my old tub.  My mom got the rusty hook and bumblebee for me several years back.

You can see my doghouse in the background.  Here is a closer shot of it.  We have a golden retriever named Zuzu.  She is a sweetie!  She actually sleeps under the bush as much as she sleeps in her house.  I tried to “decorate” her place a bit!  I am not a big fan of doghouses, but they are necessary!

I forgot to take any pictures of the chair in “recline” mode.  I am not sure what I was thinking?  That is part of the beauty of this chair!  I look forward to reclining in it!

Only 5 days of school left for my girls!  I can’t wait for summer!

You are kicking some butt with your outdoor furniture makeovers! Another awesome job!! I didn’t know spray paint worked on fabric too… thanks for the tip!

Thanks! Now I just hope the summer does not get so crazy hot that we cannot enjoy it!
