Top 3 questions and answers:
Q. Do I need an Imam to officiate over a nikah?
A. A nikah is a contract for the purpose of marriage. It does not require an officiate but does require two adult witnesses, a written contract (nikahnama) and for it to be spoken out loud so the couple involved can give their consent to the marriage. The cultural traditions and ceremonies surrounding this event are extremely varied across the globe amongst different nations and countries, and it is often this part that adds the colour and uniqueness to your commitment.
Q. Where can I find an example same-sex Nikahnama?
A. With consultation of Imams and scholars from across the globe, you can download a uniquely designed same-sex (marriage contract) template and its accompanying explanatory notes from Safra Project.
Q. Can someone be involved in a same-sex relationship and still be a faithful Muslim?
A. A growing number of Muslims are saying yes to this, on condition the ethics of love, justice and respect spoken in the Qur’an are applied. For an extended theological understanding visit the well researched Safra Project website on Sexuality, Gender and Islam.
