About Long Point Waterfowl

Long Point Waterfowl is a non-profit, non-government organization dedicated to waterfowl- and wetland- research, conservation and education. We are also committed to the celebration of our hunting heritage.

Establishment, Structure and Support for Long Point Waterfowl

spacer Long Point Waterfowl was established in the late 1980s through the conservation-minded efforts and funding provided by the Bluff’s Club (a private hunting and conservation organization concerned with long-term welfare of waterfowl at Long Point). Long Point Waterfowl is administered through Bird Studies Canada and governed by a Board of Directors and a Scientific Advisory Committee. Representatives of Bird Studies Canada, the Bluff’s Club, the Canadian Wildlife Service, Ducks Unlimited Canada, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, S. C. Johnson Limited, the University of Western Ontario and other private interests make up the Board of Directors and Scientific Advisory Committee.

Long Point Waterfowl is supported through the generosity of conservation-minded hunters as well as through numerous government, non-government and corporate interests.

Our Purpose

The primary purpose of Long Point Waterfowl is to study the staging ecology and requirements of waterfowl on the lower Great Lakes. We also monitor trends in the distribution and abundance of waterfowl, perform research on waterfowl habitats, and generate information useful for management purposes.

By making the results of our work available to the public and scientific community, we are a strong voice for conservation and we make substantial contributions to the science of waterfowl and wetland ecology. Long Point Waterfowl is also committed to providing hands-on opportunities for youth wildlife technicians, biologists and scientists, as well as to increasing public awareness of the important of maintaining healthy wetlands and sustainable waterfowl populations.

Our Mission and Vision

The mission of Long Point Waterfowl is to advance the conservation and management of waterfowl and other wetland associated organisms and their habitats.
