Overview
Peridance Capezio Center's Summer Intensive is a 4-week comprehensive training program designed for dancers ages 12-17 with serious goals to develop, increase, and strengthen their level of technique, self-confidence, and artistry. An experienced and knowledgeable faculty strongly emphasizes clean technique and self-discipline within a nurturing and supportive environment. In order to prevent injuries and promote wellness, special attention is given to proper body placement and work habits.
Beyond working to achieve technical strength, students work to understand the value of dance as an art form and to recognize as well as develop the artists within themselves. Peridance takes pride in drawing students for the Intensive from both the United States and around the world, giving them the unique opportunity to become immersed in its diverse community. Intensive participants will demonstrate their amplified understanding of technique, movement, and performance skills in a fully produced performance presented at Peridance's new in-house Salvatore Capezio Theater.

The program's Artistic Director, Igal Perry, is a critically acclaimed choreographer, director, and teacher whose work is known around the world. Mr. Perry's international engagements as a choreographer and teacher include The Scapino Ballet & Het National Ballet (Holland), Laterna Magica and the National Ballet (Prague), Architanz (Tokyo), The Royal Ballet of Sweden, and The National Ballet of China, among others. In May 2007, Mr. Perry was inducted into the Dance Library of Israel Hall of Fame.

Mr. Perry will be teaching ballet class daily throughout the Intensive. His class introduces a fresh and open approach to the study of traditional ballet vocabulary, fusing the different elements of ballet from correct placement and alignment to the utmost in technical execution, coordination, musicality, and phrasing.

Words from 2011 Summer Intensive Students

"I wouldn't change anything about the Intensive, because it is well organized. The teachers focused on our artistry!"

"I will take with me the knowledge that I am more confident with myself. I don't mind making mistakes."

"My favorite part was the seminars where we got to learn several new techniques or talk about important things related to dance."

"My favorite part of the program was meeting new people and having a connection with them through dance. I liked having the opportunity to work with professional choreographers. The Intensive was fun while staying serious and focused."
