The religious Society of Friends began as a way to find answers to questions concerning religion and its hierarchical structure, the involvement of God in each individual’s personal life and how we each carry the ability to grow and learn with God for guidance.
The Bible plays an important role in the life of Friends in that they believe it should speak to the heart and further revelations should be made from what the reader feels from the text. It is said that the Bible was written by men, so it is not the final word, but more like a stepping stone in the direction of one’s personal spiritual journey.
A reference to the power of the Light within each person was said to be an inheritance from God as we all were given a bit of his powers being that we are his children. Depending on how we use this light, all children of God are to be awarded with more Light.
The hearing of The Inner Voice is a practice where The Society of Friends opens itself up to communication with God. Silent Meetings are a way to allow God to come inside one’s mind and lead them on the right path through spiritual guidance.
One of the main focuses of the society is that of experiencing the religion. They believe one must feel God and religion, not only listen to its words. Through this belief they pursue stances in Peace stating that we should all feel God inside of us. Feeling the Light and God inside of us would not make us want to fight each other.
Through their practices of peace and Light, The Society of Friends emphasizes one’s personal growth and life with God. They are Children of the Light and wish to share their beliefs with others.
